DD2 said the teacher could have prepared for her own class only. The note did not cover the exact topic but the terminologies and terms in the notes were used by DD2 to “plug and play”.
Hope she does well and clear the subject with no worries

Yeah, it’s a case of 学以致用 rather than 死记硬背. The materials they come across (textbook, sch notes, passages from cloze/compre passages - since these are 说明/议论文)should equip them with enough info/knowledge to handle the topics. As for doing well/excelling, then obviously need to 下苦功 such as additional reading/watching news etc.

All the best for the upcoming WA/EOY!

I googled and read that 73% of the NYGH girls scored A for HCL in 2016? I am ok with B but if C5 then I need to 自我安慰 for few days. 😂

Unfortunately, mine doesn’t read/watch Chinese news. However, I must say that in the last 2 weeks to the oral exams, she revised all the oral notes given and that helps a lot!

There are girls who progress to the JC side but hv to take H1 Chinese. I told my girls if they had to take H1 Chinese next year then so be it then. For now, just work towards clearing the barrier.

Watching/reading news won't be that time consuming. Consistent effort + accumulative learning can go a long way. 😉

For example, from watching this 2 min snippet, students will be able to pick out pointers regarding 假信息 + learn relevant phrases such as
                - 别有用意
                - 抹黑
                - 有所警惕
                - 照单全收

                    Hi 陈老师,

Is there a way to teach 解释上下文 for HCL? Is there a method of answering based on the type of sentence given? I noticed sometimes it only required the child to “change” the word (swap) to retain the meaning, sometimes the sentence required the child to explain. Thanks!!!

Hi Reenie, to be able to utilize contextual clues to answer questions for comprehension, it is important to \"digest\" the content of the passage. For Sec lvl, esp. HCL, it is not as direct as in Pri sch lvl in terms of \"just\" looking at the text before and after keywords/phrases to pick out the answers (which I guess is understandable, since this their language proficiency should have improved and passages move on from narrative to other types such as informative and discursive/argumentative ones too 🙂 ).

Do check out this post I made previously: https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=8835&p=1958402&hilit=chenlaoshi#p1958400 Hope it helps! 😉
