I am first time hiring maid for my first newborn baby in oct 2022. I really have no choice but to hire a maid as there is no infant care slot near my house and the waiting lists are 1 year plus. Both of us are working full time and dont have much help from our parents.
Would like to seek your advice:
      1) when do I need start looking for maid agencies? I whatsapped many agencies but many told me that they will send me profiles in Sept only. Many agencies dont even respond to our whatsapp. I thought that we need time to find the right candidates and need 1 to 2 months to process overseas maids.
      2) What to look out for when interviewing the maids?
      3) I prefer to hire indo/mynmar maid as I heard Fillipino maids though their communication are better, they are more demanding in their requests. What are your experiences with indo/mynmar maid in handling baby?
For people with maids, do invest in a webcam. Tell the maid where the camera is so that she is aware. That is the minimum you must do for a new maid.

        Hi all,

A lump sum of my kid’s angpow money was discovered to be missing and we have since made a police report on 23rd May 2022. My case is now with Tanglin Division HQ

There are 3 main suspects here, my helper, my neighbor’s helper and a Malaysian subcontractor who came to fix some lighting fixtures.

Till date, there has been no action from the police, no interview was scheduled for the suspects despite us calling the police investigator on a daily basis. Reason given was there are many cases and insufficient resources.

Earlier, my helper and neighbor’s helper were both in great distress after they learnt that a police report had been made. Neighbor’s helper cried for days initially but dragged until today, both of them seems to have gotten over the event and are back to normal.

May I know, from you who have similar experiences, usually how long would the police take before summoning the suspects to give their statement?
Can I expect to wait for another 3 or 6 months ?
A quick update on my police case for those interested to know what could happen when helpers are suspected to have stolen from employers.

Last week, I received a call from my officer-in-charge at Kampong Java. He said the application for lie detector has been rejected by CID side. He has to re-conduct another round of interviews with the two helpers. *faint* Probably didn’t do a good job or not detailed enough which is why there are information gaps to be filled?

So I dropped the two helpers at the police station one day last week. After the interview, the two helpers said the same old questions were asked and nothing else. Both helpers looked normal post interview. Considering how long the case has dragged on, I think they do not feel any anxiety or stress now.

3 months have passed and the case is back to square one!

Hello all, I took over my helper today. She’s the first helper that my family employed.

She mentioned that she need spectacles as she’s near to 40 years old.

I am planning to bring her to daiso or value shop and I am ok with paying for her.

If there’s a need to go to an optician, who’s gonna pay for the fee and the price of making spectacles?

          Thanks!

Strictly speaking, this will fall under personal expenses.

I hv a frd who engaged an elderly helper, and found she had not been thorough in her cleaning & don’t know what else when it comes to cooking. The helper tried to find old flower specs but cld not afford. Eventually, she returned to her homecountry accepting her time is up for retirement. Her kids all graduated.

You can bring her to Owndays Optician, for those $98.00 include lens and frame. You can help to pay for the making of spectacles first and ask the helper to repay you $10 each month in next 10 months time.

                  Thanks guys for your replies!

We managed to find a pair of glasses from a cheap hardware store that cost $2.90 and it works for her.

Out of goodwill, we told her we can get the first pair for her but if she doesn't take care or breaks it, she will have to buy the replacement on her own.

It seems like she really need the glasses because she is constantly wearing it while working.

Singapore employment agencies and employers hiring Filipino domestic workers no longer need to submit a banker's guarantee and performance bond.

The performance bond is a requirement by the Philippine government to ensure that employers here comply with rules, such as providing medical coverage and paying salaries on time.

This was on top of the mandatory $5,000 security bond for all non-Malaysian foreign domestic workers in Singapore required by the Ministry of Manpower, which remains in place.
