Geppers are given a diff exam papers hence benchmarking is different. Lest Chinese, but it may differ from school to school, some of the geppers do GEP Chinese. Of course assuming your child is taking Chinese as MT.

Once Prelims comes, they will join their peers to take the Mainstream exams.

is it AL 8 (Distinction) ?

Since your kid's primary school exam score is AL 11,
that is,
3 points away from AL 8.
3 points is not far away.

Being an IP school,
Dunman High will still consider giving out CO. Yes, still got hope !
But,
if is 5 points or more away from the Cut off point, probably DHS may offer Wait-list, instead of offer CO.

No matter how strong, how good your child's talent is -

at the end of the day,
because

Dunman High happen to be an IP school, they will still look at your P5 / P6 school results, make sure that your kid can cope with IP rigor,
before start to offer any CO or Wait-list, to suitable candidates. That is, on condition that your child have the talent that DHS is really looking out for, first.

Not unfair comparison. Geppers just benchmark against other geppers lor. For GEP, 70 marks is considered to be just meeting the mark.

For P6 prelims, geppers will do the same papers as mainstream students but DSA applications would already be over by then. Therefore, P5 and P6 mid-year results are very important when one intends to apply for DSA

At 85%, she was like average in her class but this is for girls only (and some years back already). Am not sure if girls generally outdo boys at psle level.

DD2 had a classmate whose results were not strong, around high 70s. She was shortlisted for DSA interviews but was eventually unsuccessful.

Actually, shouldn’t the assessment be more holistic at the final interview, rather than offer CO/WL based on p5/6 results? If results is indeed a key determinant, then isn’t it a waste of their time to conduct DSA auditions/interviews by filtering by results only at the final interview? They should have sieved out by results at the onset before talent trial.

Apologies for asking as my DS is not in the GEP. Why would a score for a GEP subject be different (higher or lower) vs. the non-GEP subject. I always thought that GEP was just a different way of learning so the exams are crafted differently to assess the student. Are the papers more difficult (unlikely, that they are easier) such that a lower score for a GEP subject would mean a better score for the same non-GEP subject?

It will be interesting to see what the evaluation process looks like in the coming years. In the past, (some) kids went through the upper primary adjustment during P5 SA1, but by P5 SA2 results had (often) recovered and then you had P6 SA1 to either maintain (show consistency) or improve.

This year, the kids were down to P5 SA2 (some didn't do well) and P6 SA1; not sure if the schools weighted equally or more looking at P6 SA1? Next year, there will only be P5 SA2 (results could be more volatile) and then some combination of WAs/CAs (content could vary across schools) for P6 Term 1 and Term 2, as there will be no mid-year exams.

Maybe there will be more focus on the domain specifics with a lower general bar for P5 SA2 (and whatever P6 Term 1 - Term 2 results you have) overall academics (i.e. if meet the bar, then focus on the domain)? Or, perhaps as it pertains to DSA there will always be enough applicants that produce strong results throughout that the schools can select from.
