Thanks for sharing and best of luck for DHS and PSLE. I am a bit worried now as I’ll be facing the same things next year. Few things I can infer from this - school results matters a lot and no extra points for GEP paper. An AL2 is AL2 irrespective. An Olympiad medal in itself is of no use if not among the rank holders. Too much information about the child via Masterclass or the P6 program can also be detrimental. And probably they have internal limit on number of GE kids they can take. Or probably I am just overthinking and it just boils down to how the kid performs in selection test/interview/workshop. For now, I’ll just let myself believe that all schools are good schools and a person who has to shine will shine anyhow and anywhere.
Let me share my experience as a GE kid parent.
My DS is an average student in p3, el around 80s and math are 90s range, he got into GE as a surprise as most of his classmates did better in P3 year end than him did not get thru. But his journey in GE is never smooth. His P4 GE EL ever got as low as 30% 😭 however his math is always the top. He is always bottom in class as both EL and science are very challenging for him.
His base is strong in MO, score numerous award in MO including nmos gold and top 4 in sch team but not top 30 individual.
Smops gold and mathlympic gold. RI Distinction with 97.85%
His P6 mid year GE total AL is 13 ( with math as 1 and science as 5), he was given the opportunity to do NUSH Y1 math and robotic module but unfortunately he is still drop from NUSH after round 2. We ever appeal and was rejected.
We gave up HCI DSA interview because the date clash with NUSH and thought his chance in NUSH was higher as he has done 2 modules with them.
My personal opinion NUSH selection is base on actual day performance and when I appeal they look at his Result.
Why do I say this, one of his classmates got GE subject AL5D in 4 subjects with 1 in math and 2 in science was dropped in round 2 as well but that gal do not plan to appeal. With her result she can easily enroll in any ip school without any doubt. Because she would definitely be AL4D in psle for sure.
My DS prelim is AL10 but scoring Al2 in math which is something I could not accept, his GE math is 1 but Ms math is 2 🙄. He did mention some questions he overthink and some questions he underthink.
His science and EL in MS is AL3, GE AL5. I would say the banding in GE vs MS, MSwill be at least 1-2 AL better than GE.
Our last hope is DHS now, praying hard DHS will accept him 🙏🙏.
Hope my inputs helps. -

Thank you SG_KP1
Hi and congrats. I think there are two questions. First, does she want the domain or the school more? If domain, just put the NYGH WL in the preference submission and see if it gets converted. Rumor is NYGH WL has high chance of conversion.
Second, if want try RGS what are the odds of scoring lower than AL6 at PSLE? If AL6 can at least ballot for RGS and will most likely be placed into NYGH if ballot out. I guess in the end no one knows how our kids will score on the actual test, and it comes down to one's views about risk and reward.
Last consideration is that if try for RGS via PSLE but get posted to NYGH the leadership opportunity may not be guaranteed (will be applying for spots with all the kids posted via S1 just like at RGS).
Also, can just sit on this for a bit and focus on PSLE for the next 3.5 weeks. There is some time after PSLE before the preference submissions are due. Good luck!
For the recent prelims she got AL4(D), MYE AL6 and P5 EYE AL5(D) in MS, so fingers crossed actual psle will not deviate too far. Thinking of forgoing NYGH WL
May I ask if RGS or other secondary schools’ students in their respective talent area are all pre-selected during dsa? In short, will the secondary school still lookout for talents among those who enter via psle results? TIA again!
True, will sit on it till after PSLE, just that sometimes cannot help thinking about this dilemma haha -

Strong results! Most likely can at least ballot for RGS. One downside calculation I can suggest is take the worst grade for each subject across P5 SA2-P6 SA1-Prelim and sum them up. If still AL6 (ie lower scores in same subject, other subjects consistent), should have more comfort (but still not guaranteed).
Thank you SG_KP1

I do not know about RGS but other schools there will be leadership opportunities for those beyond the DSA domain. But applicants will likely exceed spots so not guaranteed. I do think there are other leadership opportunities in upper secondary so not all is lost if miss out in Sec 1. It's a long journey, just keep improving oneself.
Good luck again! -
Got rejection letter from DHS by mail…

- If the DHS (WL) gets converted to CO later, your child secures a spot at DHS.
- If the DHS (WL) does not get converted into a CO, your child will enter TJC.
