hi there,
New to this forum.
Congrates to all who have received CO / WL!
Can I check if anyone can receive 2 COs or 1 CO + 1 WL for SOTA? Or does the school βde-conflictβ before sending our the results? -
My daughter received WL (Sota dance) .Does anyone know what the chances are of getting in?Thanks!

My guess is that it depends on whether there are many who have received double COs for both art-forms that they've auditioned for. And also some who has received CO from SOTA have also received CO from other schools... and may choose not to proceed with SOTA.

I remember reading on earlier threads for the past years that WL has a good chance of conversion. Good luck to your girl! -

Old post but hoping that you will read this! My kid got a CO from SOTA for Theatre... I would like to know how has your DD's experience in the school been this year?
Hi, My DD has a CO from SOTA (theater DSA). She has been invited for a \"scholarship interview\".
Any idea what this is about? What will she be tested on?
Thanks! -

SOTA does not offer two COs. If you audition for two art forms, they will choose the Art Form they feel the student performed best in (or perhaps they need more eg the musical instrument you play is unique). So if the child has more than one area of interest, it's best for the student to pick which Art Form they prefer to use at SOTA. Otherwise, the school will decide for you.

Thank you for the reply, @Notabene!

DD auditioned for two art forms and was offered CO; out of the two, she had higher expectations of herself for the other art form (dance) that she wasn't offered, so she was slightly disappointed. I could see that she felt more pressure to perform well in that audition as dance has been her identity since young and she used to tell us when she was 8 years old that one day, she will be going to SOTA through dance.
Which probably explains why she felt more pressure to do well during the audition.
Whereas for the other art form (music) that was offered to her, it was always something she did on the side, out of interest, when she had time after all the long hours of dance practices, performances and competitions. She didn't have as much training/proper coaching as others who were in the same music audition... so she felt she was the 'underdog' and didn't feel as much pressure.
SOTA is her dream school (which explains why she wanted to try both art forms to stand a higher chance), so she was still very happy, grateful and relieved for the CO. However, I sensed there were some self-doubt in her when the results were out and she wasn't offered the art form she was expecting for. I didn't want her to join the school feeling that she wasn't good enough to be offered the dance art form; so I wanted to find out more about the shortlisting process which you've explained quite clearly here. I've told her one way to see this β you've always thought that dance is the only way for you to get into your dream school; but over the years, you've a new-found interest in music and the school recognises the under-developed potential you have for it and wants to help you grow in this other art form.
Now, all that's left is for her to not screw up her PSLE
She is looking forward to starting a new chapter in the school she has always wanted to go to. -
SOTA's Cohort and Parents Engagement Programme (CPEP) will be held on 15 October 2022.
Best place and time to understand what SOTA has to offer, what SOTA's programs are, what SOTA students can do and why there are so many more girls than boys there

It has been almost 10 months since my DD got into SOTA Dance form. I must said it was really the best decision that that she had made for herself. She really enjoy it everyday, especially been around with friends of similar interest. We have heard of people hating to dance after joining SOTA but this is not true at all. She used to dislike ballet (prefer jazz, hiphop etc) but now she really love it. She told me her teachers are great and her techniques has also improved. They dance 4 times per weeks and end about 4-6 pm. It was tiring and there are 8 subjects to manage as well. But still, she looks forward to going school and have fun.
Hello, I am new to here. My DD has received a confirmed (CO) for dance domain.
My DD has been dancing for many years and she is very passion about it. At first we thought it is quite easy to get into SOTA but when several of her friends (very strong dancers also) received rejection, we realized we were wrong in our perception. I am guessing the selection criteria include dance passion, academic capability and TA/audition performance. My DD did had a lot of fun in the TA audition/interview and we were glad to be offered a CO. Hope these give some insight to future DSA applicants.
There are 2 main reasons that we will take up the offer
1. She wants to be a better dancer and we know that SOTA will be able to nurture her further. Note that DD is also a competitive dancer in an external dance school.
2. The 6 years IB Program which lead to a diploma cert. My DS is currently in another IB school (Year 5) and I really like the many other skills (beside the extensive knowledges) that he has acquired at this young age thru this program. You can read this recent article )https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/parenting-education/ib-diploma-and-a-levels-how-the-two-routes-differ-0
I will be happy to hear from any SOTA students/parents their experience so far.
Nevertheless, we do hear girls transfer out because they feel it is not suitable for them. So I want to advise girls who like to take up the offer must make sure you are passionate about dancing.
As a parent, I feel SOTA is really a cool school. Beside its modern school structure, students get to wear any shoes, sweater/hoodies, any hairstlye etc. The school environment has so much vibe and it make me feel like my DD is in tertiary education already:)
