My DS also said the comprehension is not easy. But he came across this story before. Cannot rem where he did this, maybe is one of the past year papers or assessment books. A few of his classmates also feedback have come across this passage before.
What is the Chinese Comprehension topic passage about ? filial piety ?

Difficult paper. I supposed they will eventually moderate the marking accordingly.
Under AL scheme, where got moderate cohort performance marking ? What u see, is what u will get

Any advantage if doing HCL as well?
Only if you want to choose a SAP secondary school.

Students who obtained Distinction/Merit/Pass in HCL and a PSLE Score of 14 or better (i.e. PSLE Score ≤ 14) at PSLE will be eligible for posting advantage to SAP schools

Oh shucks… my son came back saying he feels the paper was manageable (prelim AL4) and many of his friends found the paper easy. Reading the above comments about the compre being tough, I guess I have to take his words with a pinch of salt.

My ds mentioned that the compre last 2 questions are similar like HMT compre questions. He feels that MT paper today is the usual standard, MCQ are in fact easier.

If u are heading or targeting for
(IP or O-level) SAP Secondary schools,
                then
                you need to do well,
in both your PSLE (Standard CL and HCL), minimum try to score a \" Merit\" in your HCL.

\" Distinction \" for HCL, not easy to get. Few scored \"Distinction\", for HCL. But, many scored \"Merit\", in their HCL.

If merely scored a \"Pass\" in your HCL, not much use, might as well go apply for Non-SAP Secondary schools instead.

The types of questions asked for CL compre and HCL compre are "fixed".

If anything (difficulty wise), it’s whether there are hidden/underlying meaning (隐含意义) in the passage context (which some students may not be able to analyse/comprehend).

So, the only "advantage" that HCL students may have (when it comes to handling the written exam) is they are exposed to more compre passages (since there are 2 OE Compre in each HCL Paper 2) so should be more equipped to decipher those underlying meaning.

If a total AL score of 5 or 6 but pass for HCL , will SAP accept ?

That means they throw in a few tough, challenging questions towards the end, to sieve out, to separate out the AL1s, from the AL2s, in Standard CL (pu-hua) paper. Otherwise, if don't throw in any tough CL question at all, then everybody find it easy to answer, everyone will be scoring AL1 for pu-hua, right ?

                      Normal, lah.
The same also apply to Psle Maths paper, purposely towards the end, SEAB will throw in some harder qns, so as to separate out who are the true (real) ones,
worthy of AL1s vs. AL2s, for Maths. Tomorrow, the last paper (Science), will be the same too

Using HCI as example, cut-off is 4D-7M, that means if your child scores 7 and does not have HCL, he would not be able to enter. But if he scores 6P, he can still enter as 6P is higher than 7. They will go from 4D, 4M, 4P, 5D, 5M, 5P, 6D, 6M, 6P, then move to 7D, 7M, etc...
