[Bishan] Primary Schools

depends what you want your child to be brought up in. Moral values or more towards academic. I was a former student from Kuo Chuan Secondary and we were taught very much on moral values and a positive attitude towards yourself and others. Though i did not do very well in my studies (not that my teachers or school are no good), i certainly do excel in my career and through determination and hard work, i am now in a top management post in my organisation.
Kuo chuan Presbyterian secondary has given me a base for leadership training and i respect all teachers who put in all the hard work. In fact what i heard Kuo Chuan Secondary standard is above average secondary school. -
You are right, I think character, values, a hardworking spirit all much more important.
I was from a top girls’ school and junior college yet I don’t have many positive things to say about my schooldays.
I want my kids to grow up happy, well-balanced individuals, with a strong sense of justice and compassion for others.
Academically, if they do well, good on them but if not, that’s not the end-all, you know? -

I totally agreed, although I was from a neighborhood primary and secondary, it is very enjoyable with little stress. However, nowadays there are lots of peer pressure around on the parent that make us kiasu and put stress on the kid.You are right, I think character, values, a hardworking spirit all much more important.

Hi, I've the same dilemma with you too.My hubby is alumni in Ai Tong so we can get in at Phase 2A. But everyone in my family is against it because of the distance (6km). There are good schools within 1 km of my area but all needs balloting this year.
Can I register in Ai Tong first, then in Phase 2C, check it out whether there will be confirmed balloting in the nearby school, then decide what to do ?
Will the neighbourhood school be able to tell me if I am likely to end in ballot?
Will I end up like a headless chicken ?
I'm an ex-Ai Tong School girl so I will definitely be able to get my girls into Ai Tong under Phase 2A. However, since we are staying in Seng Kang now, it is going to be a long travelling time for my eldest girl next year! P1 & P2 still ok cos she will be in PM session and we can pick her up after school.
Although we are planning to move to Sin Ming/Bishan area in 2 years time so if that happens, at least still ok. But what if we change our plan and decide to stay put in Seng Kang? My 2nd girl will start P1 in 2011 then 1 in AM session and another in PM session... not to mention the CCA etc etc... headache...
I'm split in the getting my girls into a good school and getting them into a nearby school where they do not have to travel such long distance... :?
All my relatives objected us putting the girls in Ai Tong cos of the distance too... It's registration next month and I still do not know what I should do... sigh... -
Yes…phase 2C but guardian within 1 km have to ballot in the 2 km category, which means no chance at all…
Those ex-AiTong parents, don’t waste the chance! Next is phase 2A registration. As far as I know, kids will get use to the distance very soon…
Good luck! -
Hi
Anyone has any comments on the performance for Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary?
Is this a good neighbourhood school in Bishan? -
ashley:
Kuo Chuan Presbyterian is a very good school in Bishan - but is kind of overshadowed by the heavy weights Ai Tong and Catholic High. It won the coveted School Distinction Award last year - the highest honor yet to be given to a Primary school.Hi

really? I thot all these while it was not very good till it changes principal end of 2006.
If so, will really consider it as this year competition is stift. -
If you are considering registering… if you are staying <1km from the school, you should not have problem getting a place there for your child. Outside 1km, balloting is required.
