Does more in depth mean learning A levels syllabus ahead of time?

Not entirely about acceleration. Yes some A level topics will be touched on. But they also explore outside of A level syllabus.

The girls learn the subjects at a more in-depth level. It is to expand their exposure and deepen their interest in that subject. Pre-covid, they also get to attend workshops and talks by industry people. Unfortunately the current sec 4 batch missed out on all those.

For advanced Sc and Math, the girls need to take an extra paper. Results not counted into their msg.

For HP students, advanced Lit and advanced History/Geography replace Lit and History/Geography. They take a separate paper and results counted into their msg.

Hi parents. We are trying to understand the risk of opting for only one humanities (ie triple science and IH. No other humanities). How does L2R5 result affect JC, other than the requirement to meet MSG3.0 for promotion to JC? Does it impact the class assigned or chances of getting into special programs? Thank you.

No impact in sec sch (I assume you know which subjects go into L2R5) but just be mindful you need a contrasting subject in JC so you may end up having lesser choices of contrasting subjects to choose from in JC while others may have another humanities to consider?

We are in the same dilemma. My girl's preference is triple science, IH and third language. But I understand that there's no triple science ( Bio/Chem/Phy) anymore in JC. ( I was from HCJC S7 decades ago....hard to imagine no one does triple science anymore!) So she will need to drop one science subject and take up one humanity subject (Geography or Economics) when she moves over to HCI.

Maybe we should drop her third language and do a second humanity subject instead (Geography), and aim for the double science/Geography combination in JC? But my girl really enjoys her third language ( Japanese)....

Girl is busy preparing for Drama Fest now but once it's over, will discuss more. Any comments from the more experienced parents here? Thanks! ๐Ÿ˜„

Hi. One other option is to stick with Triple Science, IH, and Japanese and then plan to take H2 Japanese in JC (this will meet the contrasting subject requirement). If one feels the H2 Japanese is too much, can always default back to Econ...

Having a second humanities that one can continue with in JC probably has value. But doing something you are more interested in (Sec 3 - Sec 4) may be better. Good luck!

If she has interest in jap, she probably can do very well so itโ€™ll be a waste to drop it.
There is a danger in taking H2 jap because you cannot drop to H1 if canโ€™t cope (I mean as a H1, it cannot be considered as a contrasting subject so have to think v carefully in pursuing jap at JC).
Geog and Bio at JC will be a killer just because of the massive contents to cover. Chem has lots of contents too so BCMG can be quite siong.
