Yes thank you

The base price of a moped or scooter is less than $3,000. The price of the piece of paper to have an opportunity of owning it costs 4x more :siao: -

:salute: I think it is time to list the average price of a car against the current COE, so that we can all see how ridiculous this scheme has become.

Price at showroom =
(Omv x 2.4 )+ coe + dealers margin -
If the scheme is ridiculous, then don’t buy car lah…just call a cab or grab or take bus and MRT.

Well for some it is their livelihood. Taxi, grab, food delivery, pte school transport, etc. For those who are corporate client reps, having their own transport makes it easier for them to zip around meeting with clients.
My handyman had to give up his truck because of rising cost of owning one and the high COE. While he saved on the cost of owning and maintaining his vehicle, his earnings have dropped too as he is unable to respond as fast and effectively as before where he has all his tools in his truck and whatever is not available he can easily drive out to buy them. I asked him if the savings covers the drop in income, he says for now yes. It is also no joke lugging his tools around and taking public transport. I told him time to slow down and consider retiring. He say yes about time, not getting any younger. -

PHV and Taxi also require COE to purchase. The cost to purchase such vehicles will ultimately be passed on back to the consumer, -

We recently had a Grab driver with a new BMW i7. My kid asked maybe a Rolls-Royce or Bentley will take her to school soon? :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Actually for a family with a few young kids in tow, having a car is quite the essential for the family to move about.
If the scheme is ridiculous, then don't buy car lah....just call a cab or grab or take bus and MRT.[/quote]
Some professions also required a car if there are equipment to lug about. Public transport, even taxis sometimes do not take you to the exact place.
When something come to a ridiculous point yet salaries are stagnant, it is no longer just about taking alternative options, we gotta look hard and deep to see if something can be done to stop the COE from inflating so fast. If there is an alternative to help everyone earn more money to cope with the inflation, then that's fine too. -
My helper told me in her village in Indonesia is also feeling the inflation heat. The big factory she used to work in just folded. The shopping malls are starting to shut down 1 by 1 as the people there stopped buying. More malls to shut down next year.
Many neighbors came over to borrow money from her father, citing the children are hungry. A few neighbor couples divorced recently because no job, no money and the men starting to hit their wives when the wives ask for money to feed their children -
Do people think the property market is going to blow-up? Or all depends on how high interest rates go…
-
Personally I feel can get better value property
-
I m feeling the heat liao…need see how next yr goes to determine how much loan to redeem.

I was with my helper renewing her passport recently & met a family that had naturalized in SG for last 20 years, except for the elderly mother who lost her husband many years back. Back then, it seems they cld not obtain a death certificate & ICA in SG will not approved her application for citizenship.
This family expressed that SG in many ways, in fact, hv lower cost of living. I didn’t believe what I heard & seek clarifications. The eldest son, worked in SG as a consultant, then explained our cost in many ways hv been ‘subsidized’ by our govt - food, health were 2 areas he pointed to. He did highlight property prices had gone haywire many years back in HK, Japan, China & many European countries unlike SG offers diff options of govt’s mass built property & private sector property which many govt in other countries do not offer nor even undertake to build or bear the spread of ownership with lower interests/protected home ownership.
Political environment is stable in SG, hence they feel it’s safe to naturalized. He pointed to the reason why HKongers, Indonesians & M’sians come snap up our properties. That set me recalling years back my Taiwanese colleague rooted in SH with his family for his kids’ safety & benefits of their future in a strong economic location.
I’m just thankful we do not see street full of homelessness. Years ago, I was uneasy walking on California’s Bz district & the stench at bldg corners. Everytime I return fr a trip overseas, I wld be giving thanks for a livable Singapore with a nation that cares for those needing an uplift. -

Actually most of my colleagues and my neighbours are not having their own car. They sometimes rent a car (those shared electrical cars parking in HDB carpark), call a Grab or take public transport when they want to go out during weekend or holiday.

I agree for some professional, like doctors or police or sales personnel or contractors, having a car is important to them.
When the COE price is too high and excess the purchase power of most people, then who will bid for it? If no one bid for it as it is too high, will its price drop in the future?
I believe the COE scheme is to control the number of cars in Singapore and in turn also control the amount of air pollution. Therefore the Government cannot allow most people having their own cars.
I am thinking 🤔 maybe we are from different world and may have different views. For the rich class, a condominium or a good quality housing, a private car, travelling to Europe, Japan or Australia, studying overseas, etc are essential. But for the lower class, a HDB house with nearby MRT station, able to go for tertiary education in Singapore and going for holidays at Malaysia or Indonesia are already good enough. -

Yes, but we no need to pay a huge amount of COE to the government first. If we only take PHV and Taxi occasionally, it won't cost much to us.
The problem is…
