Dear parents,
Anyone has kids who got in through dsa with P5 SA2 results stated as MC? Asking this cos my DS didn’t take his papers due to C+.

when you tell all of us here that your kid had covid, hence did not take P5 SA2 exam, clarify :-

1) Total,
how many subjects did he not sit for exam ?
Is it ALL P5 subjects never taken at all, not even for one single subject

OR

only for some subjects, then your kid didn't take ?


a) scenario 1

If is ALL P5 subjects never sit for exam,
then
when u apply for DSA exercise, Secondary school side will look at your (past P4 + coming next year P6 mid year exam) results.


b) scenario 2

If is for some P5 subjects only that your kid didn't take, then the Secondary school side can still look

(at those P5 SA2 subjects, he had already sat for exam)

+

( past P4 + coming next year P6 mid year exam results).

Of course when u apply for a certain DSA domain, Sec school will evaluate your entire \"RELEVANT to the domain, you are applying for\" portfolio submitted, not just look at your (P4 to P6) primary school results, one sided only.

If one scored well for the other 3 subjects(AL1) but failed MT, what are the chances for a successful DSA?

Based on PSLE AL marking -

AL 6 : (45 to 64) marks

AL 7 : (20 to 44) marks

AL 8 : below 20

Once you failed Chinese language Mother tongue (eg. scored AL 8, or AL 7 or AL6 border line pass hovering around 50 upon 100 marks that type),

can forget about
applying DSA into
( IP schools or SAP ) Secondary schools.

Why ?

In IP schools, Sec 1 students study \"Higher Chinese\". How to cope with Secondary school Higher Chinese, if already failed the easier, much simpler, Standard Chinese, at PSLE ?

Even Temasek Junior College (IP), a Non-SAP-IP school,
also won't accept students for DSA, for applicants who have failed in their PSLE (Standard Chinese),
even if
the student has scored AL1 in their other 3 subjects, P6 (English + Maths + Science).


But,
if your status is \"Exempted\" from PSLE Chinese,
then
that Is a totally different story.
But, not when u failed Chinese. There is a big difference,
between
\"Exempted\" from Standard Chinese
(pu-hua)

Vs.

\"Failed\" Standard Chinese (pu-hua).

For students who are \"Exempted\" status from Standard Chinese (Mother tongue) -

they can still proceed to apply for DSA into any \"NON-SAP\" Secondary school,

but they cannot apply for DSA into the SAP Secondary schools.

SAP schools are out of bound,
to \"Exempted\" Mother tongue (Chinese subject) status students.

Scenario 2: only took 2 subject papers for SA2. But due to sickness, did not do well for one subject. The other subject also did not perform as per usual standard of AL2. Wonder how he is gg to be assessed for DSA. Though trying for sports , but aiming for IP schs. Past WA for p5 ranging from AL 7 to AL 12 and last year P4 overall 89%. Heard next year P6 no longer have mid year exam. Means only can base on p6 term 1 WA plus his worst than ever p5 SA2 results? Headache…anyone had similar scenario but managed to dsa successfully, assuming that his p6 WA is say AL10 and below?

For sports dsa, I would be more concerned about the sporting achievements rather than the ALs in the exams even in IP schools. So if your child is a consistent medal winner or better still, national team athlete, more likely the IP school wants you more than you want them.

If trying for Sports to top IP schools, you have to be one of the top - won several medals.
From our experience, they first assess your sports achievement, then short list for trial (some schools might have more than 1 trial), then interview. Very likely the school results are only taking into considerations when the schools short listing the students for interview.
Should not worry about the academy result, aim to win more medals during competitions. Each sports have very limited spots, the school really looking at your sports achievements first rather than the academy result. You are applying “Sports” DSA afterall…

I agree with the others above. If your child is pursuing a DSA for sports, then the main assessment would be the sport talent he/she has. Academics are important but less so and I suspect that the schools are just keen to ensure that your child can manage/balance schoolwork and the sport at the same time.


So, if your child is good in the sport and this is evidenced through awards, participation in games, representing the school etc, this is more important than having a really good P5 SA2 score especially when the schools are aware that your child was down with COVID, i.e. it’s not that he/she was a poor student.

Hi, Just thought to share my boy’s success story hopefully it’s encouraging Shortlisted for 3 schools trial via Sports DSA and got offered his 1st choice. Neighbourhood school cut off around AL14, sports powerhouse in the region, won Champion for recent NGS. My boy has been in school team since p3 but only played in NSG this year due to covid. His school team didn’t won in the NGS, he has no other training or related award besides maybe PE award which I doubt counts :rotflmao: So really don’t worry too much, just try for DSA if your child is keen as you never know what the school/coach is looking for. Hi parents

Primary school children are occupied with their studies. May I enquire how much additional time and effort your child is spending in their talent domain, to build up good results, to have a shot at DSA?

Maybe to get a general idea - performing arts soloist ballerina competitor - my DD commits a minimum of 10hrs a week. Last year we did 12hrs a week. That’s besides any additional rehearsals or training prior to comps day.
On top of that she has tuition for 2 of her weakest subjects as we have no more $ or time to commit more. 🤣

Can I check if DSA application looks at overall P5 AL or only SA2 AL. any idea?
