\"Reinfection with COVID-19 increases the risk of both acute outcomes and long COVID,\" said Dr Ziyad Al-Aly of Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis. \"This was evident in unvaccinated, vaccinated and boosted people.\"

The findings were drawn from US Department of Veterans Affairs data collected from Mar 1, 2020 through Apr 6, 2022 on 443,588 patients with one SARS-CoV-2 infection, 40,947 with two or more infections, and 5.3 million noninfected individuals. Most of the study subjects were male.

Reinfected patients had a more than doubled risk of death and a more than tripled risk of hospitalisation compared with those who were infected with COVID-19 just once. They also had elevated risks for problems with lungs, heart, blood, kidneys, diabetes, mental health, bones and muscles, and neurological disorders, according to a report published in Nature Medicine.

\"Even if one had prior infection and was vaccinated - meaning they had double immunity from prior infection plus vaccines - they are still susceptible to adverse outcomes upon reinfection,\" Al-Aly, the study leader, said.[/i]

Puzzles me too despite the unknown risks associated with the new variant, people still choose to go out and without masking up some more. The desire for 'freedom' is indeed powerful.

...I know folks who've gotten COVID twice and thrice already. If it really becomes an endemic, then hopefully we'll lose count of the number of times a person has caught it and just wish them a speedy recovery when they do - expecting full well that they will recover 🙂
Is it not endemic already? I think I'm one of the few left overs, assuming that I haven't already gotten it.
Non-covid people... we are a dying breed... 😂

Again, same boat with you. Still not COVID'ed yet.

I read somewhere that we're close to seeing this become an endemic which, by implication, would mean that we're not quite there yet.

Whatever it is pandemic or endemic - try your best not to catch this Covid 19 Virus. It is not an experience that we could proud of.

Yes, I've been told the same. But I think it's more a question of when, not if, these days.

Yes thinking is same too…it is only matter of when. I m mask off most of time …situational at first then slowly feel more like a norm.

Am considering to rush the whole family to take the bivalent shot before going on our year end holidays… or is it too close for comfort already?

I myself, Zac's Mum and Mr. Clumsy have already taken the bivalent shot. Why you still have to wait?
