I am half-hearted about her AL16 coz I would prefer her to go into NA to develop and grow at a slower pace but seems like now have no choice but to go into Express (which is never my intention). I feel MOE should give parents a choice to choose NA despite qualified for Express (I know where my GN stands in terms of academics as my training has been all the years focusing on 'exam smart/focused'). I could foresee she struggling even more in sec school Express class that I feel is not a necessary pain for such growing up years that are supposed to be more fun/memorable. (穿着不适合自己的鞋,会痛苦的走四年。)
Congrats! Sounds like overall exceeded expectations too.
I dont think the better grade for Chinese was across the board (sorry, theory disbunked). My DS’ Chinese grade stayed the same as prelims despite feeling he did better in Oral and LC and written components. His improvements came in English and Science.[/quote]
Perhaps your DS' score has been high enough and at that level, it cannot be curved up anymore (meaning they will only curve up a certain segment below certain marks and not the higher level since AL1 is reserved for only a limited number of students)? -

Unfortunately, there are no official stats posted for this. It's only from school comments (sometimes secondhand but if you trust the source can take as good) or observations from friends that were unlucky / what's reported here on where the child was posted.
How to find out if the school balloted at first choice? Is the stats available somewhere? That will help alot of kids and parents to make that choice decision. -

If folks still believe in bell curve even in AL scoring, it is possible that ratings are scaled up. Pre AL, a lot of students who are not so fantastic in CL (ie my kids) could obtain A* (ie 91 and above).

Separate letter only indicate 3rd language choices. No mention of higher mother tongue. Is it automatically being offered based on MOE info about HMT? Eg either AL 8 or above, AL 14 or below with AL 1 or 2 in MT and Merit in HMT?
Pls advise.
My DD scored AL 2 in MT and merit for HMT. Is she eligible to take higher chinese in Sec? -

You can only appeal if you meet the school’s COP.
Thanks. As we cannot go to SAP schools, our choices at AL8 is limited.
I could choose Cedar O-, but the school is far-far away from home and doesn't make sense.
Last 2 choices are Swiss cottage (stone throw distance from home) and Bukit Panjang.
Let us hope for the best.
Any statistics about balloting (among SC?)
Also, most schools have a process for appealing. How it works out (if we get balloted out and still trying through appeal)?
Your best chance is to bank on your first choice since the second and third are unlikely to be in your favor when it comes to rank choice tie-break, assuming all COP remains the same. As such, it would seem that SCGS O would be your best option as the first choice.
Personally, I wouldn’t discount CGSS O. It really isn’t that difficult nor take a long time to get to Woodleigh from Bukit Batok. -
DD scored AL11. Choices as follow:
1. St Marg COP 11
2. Crescent COP 11
3. CHIJ STC COP 13
4. Tanjong Katong Girls 11
5. Nan hua 11
6. Paya Lebar Methodist 13
Any opinion is appreciated 😊 -

Your DD should be eligible based on the MOE info. From what I've seen, the Eligibility Letter has both HMT and Third Language. If really not there, I am not sure why. Perhaps some others can clarify if similar situation (meet MOE criteria but not showing up for some reason).

Call up MOE to clarify, is the best.

Ask them,
is it only fall within Top 30 % of entire Psle cohort, then offered HCL (Sec 1) ?
