Personally, I hope they are given more autonomy (disclaimer: I had lived in the East Malaysia for a few years and is thus biased in my thinking 😆 ). Sabah and Sarawak are not 'states' as envisaged in the 1963 Malaysia Agreement. They are on equal standing as Peninsula Malaysia (aka the Federation of Malaya) and Singapore. Sadly, when Malaysia expelled Singapore, they also downgraded Sabah and Sarawak to being a 'state' in an amendment that came into force in 1976. There are a number of problems within both states that cannot be solved, and both states cannot improve, if they continue to be tied to the politics and nonsense going-on in Peninsula Malaysia.

A little known bit of history. A big reason why Sabah and Sarawak are in Malaysia is due to Singapore, or more specifically, LKY. https://www.nas.gov.sg/archivesonline/data/pdfdoc/lky19620203a.pdf, North Borneo (as Sabah was then called) Chief Minister in Jesselton (now known as Kota Kinabalu) to discuss about the formation of Malaysia and the benefits. Both LKY and Donald Stephens see the formation of Malaysia as a federation of different countries (namely, Malaya, Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei, which rejected the 'opportunity' to join) Beyond the economics, LKY wanted the others to join as it would bring the ethnic make up of Malaysia to a more equitable level (i.e. less Malay centric). Henceforth, the wheels of Sabah and Sarawak joining the Federation were set in motion. Unfortunately, when Singapore was expelled, Malaysia PM refused Sabah's request to review its involvement in Malaysia. As a result, they continue to be a part of the country, and subsequently 'downgraded' to being a state.

I find the 陈时中 and 周玉蔻 saga lagi entertaining 😂

The standard of their politicians is so low that Singapore’s very own Roy Ngerng and Han Hui Hui would look very high standard over there.
I'm supporting 陈时中 but 蒋万安 seems to be the favourite - partly thanks to his (apparent  ) family background.

It will be interesting to see how many of the favourites (judging from those 民调 - although some seems manipulated) end up losing.

Interesting that you support 陈时中. IMHO, given his many controversies, including lack of accountability, he is un-electable. Furthermore, his party, DPP, is too far gone to be worth considering. DPP is like the 'UMNO' of Taiwan. Corrupted to the core, and can only apply double standards, while doing nothing to improve the livelihood and future of Taiwan. At the moment, their only source of political power come from anti-China sentiments, rather than creating positive impact or 'future-proofing' Taiwan. There's only so much you can do and run on a anti-something electoral campaign.

蒋 background is actually a negative in many ways. Not everyone likes a 蒋, even though 蒋经国 was one of the most respected and popular President in Taiwan. Some people really dislikes the idea of a political dynasty. Furthermore, 蒋万安 only 'adopted' the family name because his father changed his surname from '章' to '蒋' based on a claim that 蒋经国 fathered him (his mom was his 'mistress'). As for him being the favourite, it is largely due to the third candidate 黄珊珊 diluting the green and some neutral voters due to 陈时中 controversies. Blue voters are, by and large, firmly sticking with KMT candidates. Neutral voters will be the key to the candidates' success, and unless they break heavily for 陈时中 or DPP in the last minute (as it did in 2018 due to the '反送中' sentiments), it is very likely we will see a blue wave coming.

Rural communities in Malaysia hope that those elected into power, will honor & remember what their campaign promises are, to their voters.

I believe KMT will have a clean sweep in the North 北北桃基 and you must count 台中+花莲+台东+南投+宜兰+苗栗+云林 too。 新竹most likely is 高虹安 (under 柯文哲's TPP), if 郭台铭 helps 高虹安 站台 on the eve of polling day, it's 临门一脚 already.

I don't think the green voters will consider 黄珊珊, even though she is running as an independent candidate. But they still associate her as the successor of 柯文哲。 Light green maybe will consider her, but deep green hate 柯文哲 to the core and will only support 陈时中。 Both KMT and DPP have already secured over 80% confirmed votes from their respective diehard supporters. Now they are fighting for the swing-voters.

I'm rooting for 蒋万安. Can't stand 黄珊珊 and 柯文哲. Basically I can't stand TPP.

DPP under 蔡英文 is ok. Some of them are rather friendly towards Singapore. 陈时中 publicly chided the Taiwanese netizens: \"enough, stop it\" when they were attacking Ho Ching in 2020.

KMT is also corrupt; it started with 李登辉's black gold politics in the late 90s. Old habits and culture die hard. They are all the same to me.

I think 陈水扁 was the one and only 台北市长 from DPP? Odds definitely stacked against 陈时中. Maybe support is too strong a word I used, but I rather he win, than the other candidates 😂 - mainly cos' of several factors like

                - the way 陈时中's opponents attacked him was like \"as long as you don't do a perfect job, you are incapable/wrong\", I think it's nasty (oh well, politics is not for the faint hearted >_<\")
                - if 蒋万安 was just another 立法委员 instead of being a 蒋家后代 (which, in Taipei's traditionally 蓝大于绿 demographic, adds more point) + his looks/image, would he have been a strong, suitable candidate for the 市长 role?
                - 蒋万安/KMT's 佛系/躺平 + 激化仇恨值 election approach
                - 黄珊珊's 政治变色龙 nature
                - KMT's overall image/lack of direction + 黑金政治 culture (was delighted that 林静仪 won the 补选 and when 韩国瑜 got 罢免. hehe)

                  陈时中 lost. 蒋万安 won.

The green camp also suffer bigly. At the end of the day, slogans won’t you election. People need to see results and there has to be accountability. Green camp best hope is a repeat of 2020 in two years time - blue fight blue and Beijing helps to generate another 反送中 sentiment.

Yeah, 总统选举 is different from 地方选举. 朱立伦 probably dreaming of presidential candidacy nomination with this showing (though 韩国瑜,盧秀燕 and侯友宜 probably 虎视眈眈 😂)

Interesting to see how the 高虹安 saga pans out in the long run.

I’ve to say 朱立伦’s an excellent 操盘手 in this 9+1 elections, despite that KMT had ‘shown hand’ first before DPP and TPP, meaning they introduced and fielded their candidates before their opponents did。

朱 also adopted the 空城计 in 苗栗 by not nominating any KMT candidate there but leverage the local 黑帮老大 who has many followers in the native villages to run as an independent candidate. Eric Chu doesn’t want to taint KMT’s ‘clean’ reputation by nominating someone from the triads. But after this 钟 triad guy won, he is expected to join KMT, so 苗栗 would eventually turn blue and come under KMT’s control.

In 新竹, same thing. 朱 closed one eye by allowing a few KMT members to run as independent candidates, i.e. not contest under the blue banner, so that they would 倒戈–without guilt–with tens of thousands of KMT hardcore supporters in the villages to TPP’s 高虹安. As independent candidates, they will not be penalised by and expelled from KMT. After bringing down DPP with the help of TPP, it’s likely these temp defectors would reinstate their KMT membership, so TPP’s 高虹安 the new mayor will effectively become the puppet of KMT as she has no grassroots supporters in 新竹. 高虹安 would have to kowtow to 新竹县长 杨文科 and 新竹议长 许修睿 (another triad leader) who are both from KMT.

But being a shrewd KMT chairman/ election strategist doesn’t automatically make him a good presidential candidate, though he has all the necessary credentials that no other KMT mayors have at this point. But, he doesn’t have the full support of all his cadres. He had lost badly in 2016 to 蔡英文 too。

Nope, 韩国瑜 will not run again. He has lost his shine.
Neither will 卢秀燕 as she can't leave her 台中 voters in a lurch like what 韩国瑜 did in 2019 to run for prez。 She faces the risk of impeachment.

Frankly, 侯友谊 faces the same conundrum. But KMT can 征召 him so he can legitly resign to run. He has a very high chance of winning the 2024 election if he is paired with the correct running mate, e.g. maybe 柯文哲, but would the 100-year-old KMT allow TPP's 柯 be the Prez, while their own heavyweight 候 assumes the useless VP post?

And don't forget 赵少康 also has ambitions to run, as he has already said so. He has groomed a bunch of young KMT cadres and internet troopers. Most of his 少康帮 folks are Christians. But he has a ''DNA'' problem. He is 外省挂, so nah...out。

To win 2024, KMT must field a native Taiwanese 本省人, so 侯友谊 is the best candidate to fight 赖清德。

侯友谊 isn't really 虎视眈眈 lah. He doesn't need to! As a former top cop, 候 already has the clout and strong support base, both in green and blue camps. He has already completed his 新北 master plan up till 2030, so his vice mayor can simply take over his projects while he resigns to run for 2024.

Anyway, I am pretty sure 侯友谊 has ambition to run for President, because I saw 候 publicly convey his congratulations to Lawrence Wong on the latter's FB when LW was chosen as PAP's 4G leader! 候 even welcomed LW to visit Taiwan soon! On the same day, KMT also congratulated LW, and that could have come from 朱立伦! No other mayor and DPP politicians had done so....so 高调!
