Any one has feedback on Hua Yi Sec and Jurong Sec? How’s the school environment, programs offered, discipline and academically? Thanks.

With AL16, is it worth to try Jurong Sec (COP 15) as first choice?

        Hi parents,

My daughter got 7(M) with HMT.
Q1. Need your recommendations on the choices.
        1. MGS IP- COP 7
        2. SCGS IP- COP 8
        3. NJC - COP 7
        4. Cedar IP- COP 8
        5. Dunman High- COP 8
        6. RV- COP 9

What would be the optimal order if I like her to be in MGS first and SCGS as 2nd and a safety net still landing on IP route?
7M should be quite safe for SCGS IP at 2nd choice.

Should have a reasonable chance for #1 or #2. Maybe take out NJC and replace with TJC somewhere (not necessarily in #3 spot). Good luck!

BTW, does anyone know if NUSH and SST SIEs opened? I.e. all WLs converted.

SOTA says SIE was open for Dance, Literary Arts, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts (think this is all categories).

Nush opened. Shortlist and interview these few days.

What did she decide on? Congratulations.

Hi parents, I would like to seek your opinions on HCL in secondary school. I read that getting high scores in CCAs, taking HCL and special program for 3rd language could be a possible ways to max the bonus points of 4 for entry into JC.

My question is, my son did not take HCL in PSLE, would it be possible to take HCL in secondary and any parent can share how difficult it would be? He has AL3 for CL.

Alternatively, should he consider taking 3rd language, which may be quite a lot of effort. TIA.

Hi. Unfortunately it's going to be extremely hard for your daughter to get into RGS (Based on last year's cohort where there were many girls with AL6 who were balloted out while other AL6 girls got in.) For non SAP school, your higher tamil score wouldn't give you any advantage. Your daughter will be grouped together with other girls who got AL7 and didn't even take HMT in school.

I don't think there is anything official that says Malay/Tamil language students can't apply into SAP school (obviously no one will say that in case they get accused of being racist) However, if your daughter applies and is posted into a SAP school she will need to learn tamil outside of school hours at the tamil language center. And would you want your daughter to be (possibly) the only Indian girl in the sec 1 cohort? SAP schools will not go and hire a tamil teacher just for your daughter. Do i agree with this policy of SAP schools being only for chinese language students? No. But this is the rules and you will need to play by it.

Which is why it's harder to get into RI and RGS than HCI and NYGH... for the former, you have malay, tamil and chinese students vying for a spot... while for the later it's just chinese language students.
Thank you Bentley88 for your valuable inputs.
Agree with you on the RGS situation. Since we have 6 choices, we thought of trying our luck!
For the SAP school, my girl is open to take mother tongue lessons from outside. So it becomes a matter of eligible to apply or not? :scratchhead: yeah, there are still other elements to take into consideration
