      Hi floppy,

Good day to you. Sorry to point out the sophistry in your statement. In Xinmin Primary, you need AL2 for Chinese and cumulative of 13pts or below in order at Primary 5 to continue to take Higher Chinese. However, this criteria is not the same for all Primary schools. I known of student who has no flair in Chinese and scored AL3 but the Principal in other primary school allows the student to continue to take Higher Chinese. So to be more exact, this is truly an issue of the current Principal at Xin Min Primary school.

      In addition:
      1. I think that the argument that one must do extremely well for other subjects to continue to take Higher Chinese is crap. I can agree if a child score 22 or 23 points and is in danger of dropping into normal academic but not when one kid did better than that.

      2. do you understand the forcing of a kid who has flair in his mother tongue to drop the subject at a higher level leads to the lowering of self-esteem and self doubts? So much for MOE and the education minister statement to shift away from from over-emphasis on academic results and to support our child's holistic development.
For my child's case, the school recommend HCL at the end of P4 based on academic performance of all 4 subjects and we took it. The school also allow parents to choose HCL for their child even if they are not recommended but the school will hold the decision on whether the child can continue HCL at the end of P5 based on academic performance. So that is very clear that to take HCL, the student must do well in their 4 subjects before they can take up HCL. And the school make it clear that HCL is an optional subject. In fact, a few students gave up HCL at the end of P5 even though they can continue with it, unlike some others who were asked to drop by the school. For your info my child is not from SAP school. So your example of a student allowed to continue HCL could be the student did do well in the other 4 subjects or from SAP school or some other reasons. But definitely the student need to be able to handle 4 subjects before he/she is allowed to continue with HCL.

As for holistic development, nowadays the school has a lot of values in action implemented. it doesnt mean the school gives up on academic performance.

Anyway there might a miscommunication between principal and parents in your school.

Maybe some boys don’t have HP yet at P6 age. And the other parent is not free to help out. Alternative is to take taxi/private hire vehicle.[/quote]
Yes. Another way is to agree on a specific time to pick up your kid as there is a fixed time range for the interview/trial stated in the email from the school. It all depends on your kid. Some kids really need parents to be around as confidence booster while others may feel the added pressure of parents around.

      Hi All,

Just check, will the school also send rejection letter to applicants that are not successful?
My child is applying for Cath High and HCI. Thanks.
Yes they do. Not sure if it is every school though.

Any one know how many will eventually get in per subject domain? My boy is going for the science.

The email said parents can wait at the canteen & the guard will let us know where to park, but I am wondering if there are going to be allocated parking us as we are very far from RI, don't think I am driving home & back again.

Any parents with experience to share?
You can choose not to wait at the canteen. After you drop your son, you can drive to somewhere where you can wait in the car and wait for him finish his interview and contact you to pick him up.

Hi, anyone can advise how is Maris Stella High School? Any bad or good reviews are welcome. Thank you.
Apart from Maris Stella High School, is there any other boys schools that can be considered, apart from RI & HCI. Looking for a school not only good in academics, but also culture and the over wellbeing for the students.
ACSI, ACS Barker, Victoria school, CHS, SJI. There are only 12 secondary boys schools.

I read through your attachments, they only say from 15 June onwards they will make contact. Doesn't say anything about by a certain date you don't receive means you are not shortlisted.
Common sense prevails. After 15 June they will contact the shortlisted. Lets say you apply for badminton. 26 June is the first trial date. If by 25 June you did not receive any email, then it means not shortlisted.

i'm curious the reason for schools to not put a cut-off date for their emails/letters for trials and interviews etc.
Which school are you referring to? Most schools do state the cut off dates quite clearly, whether is exact or in range. For example ACSI. Parents who do not know when is because they didn't go to the school website to find out.

Same, I thought YI will enter Punggol area with 8-12 COP.
8-12 and 9-16 is not too far apart. Maybe it will drop to 14 next year given that last year was tiger batch that took PSLE.

Can ask.. by when will all the invitation all be sent? So i know i dont need to lookout if we shortlisted for interview or not?
Look at the school website that you applied for. Usually they will have dates listed clearly from receiving invitation emails to trials/interviews to outcome.

For parents just check your inbox and spam mails in case it was directed to spam mail.

Depending on schools, some may receive notification earlier than the stated dates. Some may receive later. IMO receiving the invitation for trials or interviews early is a good sign.

Thanks for the info on temasek jc. It's very helpful. My gal has very strong interest in science and recently during a family gathering , my sil suggested we should let her take IP if her result can make it. In her recent term 2 test, she gotten AL5 and she maintain similar result till psle, I guess not hard for the to get into tjc IP ..

We stay in punggol, any other IP offering School also some distance away...
Since yours is a gal and given the location you are considering TJC, that means you can consider RGS, St Nicks, Cedar girls too as Punggol is not too far from those school.
