some answers (hopefully useful) for some questions

the kid is in Y1 (2023).

      - Y1 class ranked = NO. There are mix of GEP, DSA math, DSA science, AL4, AL5, AL6 students in the class
      - remedial class = YES, for EN, MA, SC, MT. Other subjects on request.
      - late reach home = Some CCA ends at 5.30pm, and student leaves school at 6pm.
      - rough/bully seniors = NO. Seniors very well behaved, compared to some classmates
      * class bullies = YES (very subtle)
      - hide in some CCAs = YES. Some CCAs only are only twice a week, or 4-6 times a month (eg science & astro)
      - look forward to school = YES.
      - dead-tired = YES.
      - snobs = FEW (shoes, overseas hols,,, primary school)
      - bus from east = ?
      - car drop-off/pick-up on school grounds = YES. Multiple sheltered car porches.
      - congestion = YES. Morning only.
      - rude/disrespectful/rebellious = YES. At least one third of the class.

Any parents here to share their boys' experiences about life in RI? Though we're very sure of our decision, we're interested to find out more...to be mentally prepared.

      - Is life really so stressful?
      - Are the kids ranked according to the class they're in? Are their positions in class/standard disclosed at yearend?
      - Are remedial/supp classes provided for weaker students?
      - Do your kids reach home late (as in after 9pm) often?
      - Are the boys rough (during orientation, do the seniors bully the juniors in ways that are demeaning/spiteful?)
      - Is it true if you \"hide\" in guitar ensemble, you'll have a less packed cca schedule? Anyway, son's not keen to join guitar.
      - Are your kids generally happy (look forward to school).
      - Are they often dead-tired from school activities?
      - Are they snobs who compare the brands of their shoes/mobiles/laptops/games/cars etc..or even the places they visit?
      - Heard that there're school buses that pick up the kids from east side. Any idea?
      - Are parents allowed to drop off the kids within the school grounds(if it rains?)..Is there morning peak hour conjestion?
      - Are they rebellious, rude and behave so high and mighty? Somehow I've the notion that sap school kids are more respectful and humble..so perhaps I'm looking more for assurances from parents.

      Thanks much for any input.

        Hi all,

Does any parent know, usually how many kids will be shortlisted to take the RI DSA (Academic domain) test each year?

Will i be able to park near the Albert Hong Hall if I am going to be waiting for my son at the canteen while he is taking the test? If not, where do visitors park?

        TIA

Several hundreds of P6 students will be short listed, for Academic tests.

            - last year (2022), around 400 students
            - can drop off near AlbertHH
            - not be enough visitor parking places in school compound, and will be turned away
            - park nearby HDB (long walk)
            - RI will send detailed instructions for applicant drop-off, pick-up

some do the below (closest to AbertHH)
            - park at or besides the columbarium complex ? (https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/kwong-wai-siew-peck-san-theng-columbarium-in-bishan-opens-gallery-to-showcase-150-year)

            best of luck !

There are light industrial estates opposite RI. You can park there and they’re nearer than Bishan HDB.

Any one know how many will eventually get in per subject domain? My boy is going for the science.

The email said parents can wait at the canteen & the guard will let us know where to park, but I am wondering if there are going to be allocated parking us as we are very far from RI, don’t think I am driving home & back again.

Any parents with experience to share?

                  NO allocated parking.

A few hundreds of \"short-listed\" P6 boys, will attend the Science academic test.

                  For RI (Science domain),
around 10 to 20+ boys, will be offered DSA \"Science\" domain.

                  Every batch, differs.
No fixed number of DSA offer, to Science. This number is NOT fixated by the DSA selection panel.

                  Example

If that year, the P6 batch happen to have more boys talented in Science,
                  then
more DSA offer(s) will be issued. Otherwise, No.

You can choose not to wait at the canteen. After you drop your son, you can drive to somewhere where you can wait in the car and wait for him finish his interview and contact you to pick him up.

Maybe some boys don’t have HP yet at P6 age. And the other parent is not free to help out. Alternative is to take taxi/private hire vehicle.

Yes. Another way is to agree on a specific time to pick up your kid as there is a fixed time range for the interview/trial stated in the email from the school. It all depends on your kid. Some kids really need parents to be around as confidence booster while others may feel the added pressure of parents around.
