For those in Sec4 already, no need. This would be for those who are entering S3 in 2023. The Teacher's Guides on the right hand side are all for teachers teaching the course.
Thanks..to clarify, no need is more to mean this group of students (O next year) would already have their text & revision books and not that there is change in syllabus, am I correct?

Depends. MOE is changing the syllabus a bit, so new textbook out end of this year. If the student concerned is doing O-levels next year, might be worth waiting. If the student is doing it this year, Marshall Cavendish produces most of the good ones—the student should have a look to see if they understand it when casually reading. If they don't, it might be a red flag: either the student is in bad shape or the book is not appropriate. 🙂
I just read this.. for students doing O next year, will the MC new books help?

Okay, I have to confess that I may have conflict of interest here, being a co-author for Chemistry. But one data point that may help is that MC appears to have obtained the only successful tender for Chemistry this year (for 2023), judging from school booklists and MOE's own list (if you click https://www.moe.gov.sg/-/media/files/approved-textbook-list/current-titles-sec.ashx?la=en&hash=F9973C6D6FDE967132F2D32000D63274160D6D72 you will immediately download their public Excel file for approved titles). This may also be true for Bio and Physics, but those aren't my subject areas.

I think the new books do have a substantially different approach. There is of course some overlap (the syllabus hasn't drastically changed), but a fair bit of tweaking has occurred—and my personal opinion is that it's for the better.

Yup, you are right. The update is for S3 2023 onwards. I noticed a new edition for their Chem textbook, phy and bio too.

This got me curious, now I see Chem and Bio moved from 2nd to 3rd edition while Physics moved from 4th to 5th edition.

We did not buy the LSS books in S1, only the pure or \"Matters\" books and I was hoping both kids could use throughout (as don't seem to be used all that often). I guess will see if either kid requires the newer versions (S3 kiddo's school seems to be fine with using prior/similar versions).

Yup, you’ve listed the new editions accurately. It should be in the latest booklist of all sec schools though.. Hm. Why are you curious?

Does the matters books overlap with more details, making the LSS books unnecessary? I didn’t take note that your child is in S3 IP too. 🙂

Autolycus posted that the new books have a substantially different approach and some overlap but the syllabus hasn't drastically changed, so it should be alright to use the previous edition.

Since there is no change to next year 2023 O-level Chemistry syllabus (SEAB),
                    no need

                    to buy these new series.
Our existing textbook, O-level \"Chemistry Matters\", is detailed and good enough !
