      Dear parents,

DS going to sec 1 in 2023. I’m wondering whether they need a laptop for school use or desktop is ok? I’m using company issued laptop, and when it is faulty, I get a new one at work, and pay a little to get the old one for home use, especially during HBL 2 yrs ago. But it is a macbook air (old one). Does anyone know secondary school need to use computer, and is macbook ok or must be windows based? Or I can keep to current arrangement. DS has an ipad mostly for reading news and his games.
For the schools your son submitted in the S1 posting, go to the school websites and look for any pages on \"PLD\" (Personal Learning Device). Different schools are using Widows, Chromebook, or Apple (sometimes iPad). There should be an option to order a school prescribed device sometime in Sec 1.

Every secondary student would have their own Personal Learning Device (PLD). You can wait for the school's arrangement for his PLD.

Meanwhile, an old laptop should be sufficient unless he has computing-related lessons (school will usually provide the minimum/special requirements).

        All the best

          Oh i see. Ok thanks!

I’ll wait then. If it’s ipad then i can save. Otherwise I would think it would be heavily subsidised or can use certain education funds. I was thinking to go look at carousell or hunt for some deals in time for 12/12 sale. Better wait for posting first.
          🙃

MOE should get attractive rates due to bulk tender. High-end specs are unlikely since they are not necessary for e-learning.

Students can pay through their Edusave accounts.

            All the best.

Surface pro was also one of the computers. Yeah. Wait for bulk tenders.

Can I ask if a Macbook Air M1 is good enough to play games like Total War or Diablo, I’m not sure what version is the latest game now? I am thinking of buying one for my DH for his bday.

the kid’s (sec1) school requires IPAD gen9 10.2in as the PLD. however, some assignments/HBL can only be completed on a windows device !
