      Forgot to mention.

Had a friend who stayed at Canberra will travel to Bishan then chg at botacs to arrive at TKK.
During regular school Term time (Term 1 to Term 4),

during morning rush peak hours, once arrived at Botanic Garden mrt Station, there are a lot of buses to take to school, Hwa Chong.

The 1st bus stop is the one very near to this English tuition centre called Write something. From Botanic Garden mrt to this first bus stop, no issue. Very fast, u can reach this 1st bus stop !

      However,
to reach the 2nd bus stop where in front of the bus stop is Coronation plaza, where ground floor is NTUC supermarket,
there is a VERY bad traffic jam created, between the 1st bus stop to this 2nd bus stop.
This happened, esp. during peak hours only.

      Why ?

      Because
a lot of cars are turning into Nanyang primary school, hence creating a very heavy bottle neck and traffic jam !

      Therefore, on the surface,
taking a bus from Botanic Garden mrt Station to Hwa Chong, seems very easy, smooth sailing. Not many bus stop, what. This exists only in Theory.

      In practice, in reality,
because of this bad traffic jam between the 1st and 2nd bus stop, end up -
it take ages, before the traffic light can turn green, a long time to reach Hua Chong.

But off peak hours, no issue, because the road is clear during off peak hours.

      What does this mean ?
This means that during peak hours in the morning,

whoever (student) is taking public bus, from the orange line or blue Downtown line
( Botanic Garden mrt station to Hwa Chong ),
      u need to

factor this \"caught in the very bad traffic jam situation \" ! Otherwise, u will be late for school.

Now is Nov/ Dec year end school holiday. Nobody go to school, so u won't notice this bad jam. But once school Term start, in the morning peak hours, u will observe this.

Thanks! So taking to TKK will be safer in that sense despite having to transfer.
Not so familiar with that area and as you mentioned, it’s off peak now, so no chance to test it out.

Sembawang red line isnt it? Why dont u take southbound to Newton & then walk short distance (sheltered) transfer to blue DTL, very fast to TKK and then any bus to HCI?

Yes will ask my DS to test out the MRT route to see which one is faster to TKK. There’s 3 route, 2 of them with 2 changes and last one via newton. I think it will just be minutes apart. So it depends on him next time.

Thank you for the suggestions, folks!

Out of curosity, does students in IP schools (esp HCI) take FCE in Year 1 & 2 and Social Studies in Year 3 and 4 like those on "O" Level track. I hear that there is no FCE in HCI, is this true? Social Studies seemed irrelevant for IP since they skip "O" Level, so more relevant to teach General Paper or Project Work or even bite-size of Knowledge and Inquiry (since it is a H2 subject).

                      Hi.
#1. There's no FCE in HCI. I think some other (IP) schools still have it though.

#2. All IP schools take Social Studies. It may be called something else or embedded inside of another class, but I believe it is a mandatory class per MOE. For HCI, SS is a full class in both S3 and S4 (i.e. not combined with anything else).

#3. In addition to group projects in various classes, there is one (graded) class/assignment called \"Project Work\" each year. I'm not sure exactly how it does/doesn't match JC1 PW.

Yes, some other IP schools (not HCI) do take FCE. For ours, it’s quite fun. The kids baked muffins, cupcakes, cooked Hainanese chicken rice with chilli, curry chicken.. etc. Social Studies is part of a subject called I&A (Inquiry and Advocacy) and they do this for all 4 years before moving on to their partner JC.
