I think now clan membership especially those with primary schools ones are very strict about it
Clan members do take note that if you are signing off membership application for strangers, you are violating the clan’s membership rules and also bringing yourself unnecessary stress as you Nv know whether the person you are signing off is your competitor during a ballot. -
Sorry parents may i know do I need to be baptised in order to be a member of methodist Church… thanks

I think nowadays, these clan group are very strict, with the number of hours parents clocked in to volunteer their time

I think the hokkian clan tell their members that you can volunteer, but doesnt mean dont need to ballot as there are lots of volunteers who will be registering

Typically, yes. Need to be member which is after baptism. Think this to prevent abuse of system. Membership classes also takes abt a year or more depending on whether u miss any lessons or their cycle. Some wld need new members to join cell groups after membership class before church membership confirmation for baptism.

HI All! Just checking in to seek for Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan members to sign off on my application. I lost a signature as my relative’s membership had expired so really need some help if possible. Happy to treat with a bubble tea or something. Thank you.

Hi all!
Very interesting to note all the replies wrt to Churches/Clans and Societies! I am a parent of mixed background, my dad is indian(tamil) and mum chinese (hokkien). For what its worth, does anyone know if being Tamil or being in any tamil association helps with school enrolment? I tried searching for more info but seems like i cant find any info!
PS - I called SHHK to enquire if can use my mum hokkien status, they say cant as will have to follow my dad.
Thanks in advance! -

Really? I am Hainan and my wife is hokkien. We got into SHHK because of that. But that was donkey years ago, so they may have changed the rules...

I think as long as 1 parent's birth cert shows Hokkien as dialect, then that parent will be able to join SHHK. Sadly for me, my dad is Tamil and my wife's dad is Teochew.

Your case happened a long time ago. SHHK has changed to new rules.

For a child to join SHHK, the father must be hokkien, not the mother.
It is the father's dialect group that is important. Not the mother.
Pls read the conditions below, received 10 minutes ago by email reply. Thank you.
=====================
Dear Parent,
SHHK membership applicants must be Singapore citizens of at least 21 years of age and ancestry can be traced to Fujian Province.
We follow the Chinese traditional way of identifying the dialect group of a person via the paternal lineage, i.e. the father’s dialect group.
Hope this clarifies. Thank you.
