Tks again.

I think i got it now.
If helper returns home for 2 wks ie 14 days in Nov, as an employer, we will pay for her return airfares but no need to pay for the 14 days when she is at home country. She will still receive her Nov salary as if she is working in Spore.
Of course the simplest would be she isnt returning home. Then we will just convert her 14 days of leave as cash plus bonus.
Thank you. -
Hi, still on this topic of FDW home leave .. can I plsvclarify ? Am a bit confused too.
SCENARIO 1
After 2 yr contract, FDW renews ctt & goes home for leave (2 weeks in Nov), then comes back to SG.
Assuming salary is $800.
Employer pays for :
1) 2-way airfare (market rate)
2) November salary in full as usual ($800)
3) Bonus - is this the norm? ( would appreciate any indication how much this is ? Half month bonus? 1 month bonus? )
SCENARIO 2
After 2 yr contract, FDW renews ctt.
but DOES NOT go home for home leave (2 weeks.
Continues working in SG during the 2 weeks.
Assuming salary is $800.
Employer pays for :
1) 2-way airfare in cash (market rate)
2) November salary in full as usual ($800)
3) Bonus - is this the norm?
4) Does employer need to pay an additional $400 (2 weeks salary in lieu of home leave, since fdw continued working in SG during home leave )?
Again, not sure if 4) is the norm, would appreciate any input .
Thanks again ! 😀 -

Yes, definitely u hv to pay 2-way in order for her to return to work
2) November salary in full as usual ($800)
Salary shld be up to the day she worked for u before leaving
3) Bonus - is this the norm? ( would appreciate any indication how much this is ? Half month bonus? 1 month bonus? )
It is up to individual employer to provide. There’s no contractual r’qmts but it’s a goodwill pymt. Some eyer’s pay bonus only upon the helper returns & informed helper before she leaves.
SCENARIO 2
After 2 yr contract, FDW renews ctt.
but DOES NOT go home for home leave (2 weeks.
Continues working in SG during the 2 weeks.
Assuming salary is $800.
Employer pays for :

Same answer as abv
2) November salary in full as usual ($800)
Definitely hv to be in full as she’s still in yr employment
3) Bonus - is this the norm?
Same answer as abv
4) Does employer need to pay an additional $400 (2 weeks salary in lieu of home leave, since fdw continued working in SG during home leave )?
She is getting her salary in employment. No need for additional
Again, not sure if 4) is the norm, would appreciate any input .

For Scenario 2, helper didnt return for home leave and I paid
1) market rate of return airfare
2) 2 wks of leave converted to cash
3) a little bonus.
As she continues working, she is earning the salary.
I am examining the scenario 1 if helper returns for home leave
Suppose she gets her pay on 1 Nov and she returns home 1 to 14 Nov
My view is employer pays for
1) return airfare so that she leaves 1 Nov and then back to SG on 14 Nov
I am unsure if employer has to pay salary for 1 to 14 Nov so that she will get her full salary for Nov on 1 Dec.
Am quite confused too. :stupid: -
1) Return for home leave:
Return airfare
14 days in home w/o pay ???
2) Not returning for home leave:
Return airfare converted to cash
14 days of leave converted to cash -
Hello starlight1968sg, I'm guessing that I have a greater understanding of your concerns now. You know, you don't have to give your fdw paid annual leave if you don't want to. You can explain the sums & hear her response. The reason why we provided paid annual leave for ours, besides our interpretation of the rules, not that her work was so superb, was because we wanted to show her our appreciation (the elderlies she work for are very difficult employers), she had been very accommodating, & importantly the opportunity cost (her not renewing her contract) for us was much much higher than that sum of money. So just propose your ideal sums & hear your fdw out; no need to overthink

I dont want to shortchange my helper. I dont want to overpay her bec it will be \"killing\" myself over this expense.
Hence I am trying to hear the views of different employers so that I can find a balance.
I have a helper who looks after my old dad who has limited mobility. Her job is solely to look after my dad.
We employed her in Sep 2019 and in Sep 2021, we DIY in the renewal of contract ie didnt go thru the agency. She didnt return home and hence we paid 14 days of leave in cash, a return airfare converted to cash and a little extra.
Come this Sep 2023, she will complete the current contract.
If she doesnt return, I would pay the same as above.
If she returns for home leave, it will be something new which I need to study to prepare. I have asked her to confirm after CNY bec I will need time to source for the return airfare to Manila and help to take care of my father during the 2 wks when she is away.
I am clear that the return airfare will be paid by us.
That is why I asked if I need to pay for her 14 days of leave in cash and pay salary as if she is still working in Spore during her absence. To me, these 14 days would be getting like double pay.
Thank you. -
Today I was at Beauty World plaza.
There are many Employment Agency. Helpers were seated in the shops. I wonder if these helpers have not found their employers. I thought many employers are in need of helpers then why these helpers were not employed. -
starlight1968sg, I had a chance to walk into my usual employment agency this year, chit-chatted with my favourite agent (young lady from china). Compared to pre covid times, my feeling is that maids are more knowledgeable about their market value. Fortunately, under new rules, the agents are also more transparent with us. One, the lady employer has OCD, insists for instance that her maid must rinse the rice 8 times etcetera, maid could not stand it & asked to change an employer. Another, the maid had thought she could manage an elderly who is immobile. Day in day out she had to carry the elderly from the bed to the wheelchair, vice versa. Eventually she could not take it & asked to change an employer. Then there were some whose contracts had ended, & they wanted to look for new employers willing to fork out a higher salary (increment of $100/month). Some employers too, they sent their elderlies to homes, their children were grown up, they suffered a change in financial situations, so they did not require the maids' services. I spoke with one, who refused to reply me in english; another was defensive (I could imagine my elderlies calling us everyday to complain about the disobedience). One could not handle active children, one could not handle a three storey house, another could not handle a bedridden elderly... There may seem like many seated at the agencies, but even after months, they don't budge on their higher salary/ compensation demands. That was my experience
