Paracetamol is a generic name; Panadol is one of the brand names.

Ibuprofen is a generic name; Nurofen is a brand name.

Just ask at a pharmacy for the generic name. And if they really don't have even the generics, then ask the pharmacist for alternative medicines. They will be able to advise. And generics are much cheaper! I buy 100 tablets of paracetamol for about $6 at Unity (price may be out of date as it was about a year ago).
      Tks slmkhoo for the explanation.

Excuse me, so what's Ong Ye Kung and Lawrence Wong going to do about the border restrictions?

In 3 hrs, Shin Min FB had 186 comments mostly expressing their concern or fury that the PRC nationals are once again getting out of their country to spread the new strains to the rest of the world. Deja vu Dec 2019-Jan2020?

Can the Pfizer and Moderna bivalent vaccines withstand the new strain BF.7 that's spreading in Beijing now? Heard its R0 = 18. Delta was only 6. How about the elderly who took Sinovac and Sinopharm, just like the PRC tourists who have just been unleashed? These 2 brands have no bivalent boosters.

And there's BA.5.2 spreading in Guangzhou now, according to some TW media. How about XBB and BQ.1 which are also detected in China?

When there's a lot of movement among millions of vectors, newer sub-variants will be formed as there's cross-'germination' (correct my terminology if you will).

Have we achieved herd immunity specifically against these new China sub-variants already? I'm still Covid-naive! Maybe I'm part of the 20% minority.

So hard-up for tourism receipts? Or we're back to Jan 2020 when MTF tried to act cool? Why are so many countries re-imposing border restrictions in light of the upcoming 春运, yet our MTF chooses to stick to their 佛系 mode again?

        https://www.channelnewsasia.com/asia/china-covid19-soaring-cases-new-variants-3172391

\"Flahault said \"a soup\" of more than 500 new Omicron subvariants had been identified in recent months, although it had often been difficult to tell where each had first emerged.

\"Any variants, when more transmissible than the previous dominant ones - such as BQ.1, B2.75.2, XBB, CH.1, or BF.7 - definitely represent threats, since they can cause new waves,\" he said.\"

But there were <5 in ICU (last night's figure) and relatively low nos. in hospital. It's not the total no. of infections that really matters.

I haven't caught Covid either, but I think differently. I think 80% is good enough \"general\" immunity given that the new sub-variants are precisely that - sub-variants, not entirely new pathogens. And now, Covid infections tend not to be too serious. We don't worry so much about flu, dengue etc, which seem to be as bad or worse in outcomes. I don't expect or want the country to shut down to protect me since I'm in the minority - if I want to, I will wear my mask more and avoid social gatherings, rather than expect the rest of the nation to do it for me. If I get really sick, there's plenty of ICU space now.

I was just thinking how far we’ve come since the Wuhan virus outbreak & today, I was able to note that I’m still washing up the moment I return home fr anywhere, carry my hand sanitizers, DH & I wld wash our soiled notes/coins at the wet mkt before returning home, etc. All these were habits we were not typically sensitized to do as part of our lives pre-covid days.

Granted there are still recalcitrant masks-free individuals who wld walk in to clinics but I’ll nvr fail to hand them a piece if the nurse assistants are too busy to instruct them to do so. Yes, I got a stare the other day when I had food poisoning waiting at the clinic when this young man was shocked that I wld point him out. The ladies behind the counter was afraid they might offend their clients but I unabashedly told them they hv the authority to insist masks to be worn by the authority. The other man with elderly quickly took my masks & wear.

I believe the majority of us wld do the right thing for our health & the health of others. I’ll not be surprised if the numbers go up drastically, we’ll go back to mask-on days. But with >80-90% vaccination rates, I believe it’s less aggressive then what we had before 3 years back. Feels more like it’ll be part of common flu.

DH was WFH this week as he caught the flu some weeks back & the symptoms of persistent cough & blocked nasal passage still stubbornly lingers. When we both caught Omicron, we were done within the week & with less persistent effects once we did our throat gurgle, NeilMed to clear the nasal, Panadol & a couple of days’ rests, tho the hazy brain took abit longer to clear. We’ve not lived fearfully but with caution.

German immunologist are now claiming that the pandemic is over! Though I wldn’t relax soon so as I’m expecting Chinese travels to increase & initial increase in covid numbers, but if we continue to be diligent in our hygiene practices, when the numbers stabilized, we’re still holding up our economy. I don’t wish to see our small economy go downhill after all the hardwork to bring in new investors post covid.

The last thing I want to do is live in fear with lockdowns or border closed & not able to spend time together with my extended family for CNY.

I think back to lockdown days may be highly unlikely bec much of the population is fully vaccinated.

Now the qn is when the mask can be removed totally.
