With all the news on media about people rushing to buy up panadol, are you all also stocking up ibuprofen for ur kids ar? (not suggesting that we should) but wonder if there is a need to..
It depends on what you mean y \"stock up\". If you mean enough for a couple of days until you can bring them to see a doctor, or enough to self-medicate for a few days, then it's something I always do. If you mean to buy enough for weeks or even more, then I think it's unnecessary as Singapore isn't likely to run out. Hoarding, may make other people also hoard, and can actually bring about shortages, which induce more hoarding... And if you don't use up the medicine by the expiry date, then it will just go to waste.

It is about the ingredient or composition of Drug Paracetamol or Panadol and the causes of recent snap up or panic buying of these Drugs.

It's the media that's driving up the paracetamol demand. So many viewpoints that it gives me a headache :imanangel:

Nice to have some paediatric meds on standby for 6-12yo... But if under 12, shouldn't you first rush the kid to the PD if his fever hits 38.5 DC?

PD clinics and 24h KKH A&E shouldn't be swarmed by adult patients so no need to worry. Get the meds from the PD. You wun even know if you need Mucosolvan, Flumicil, Singulair, etc. until the doc says yes.

Above 12, I guess he can take your Panadol, Zrytec, Clarityn...

RE: Covid+ kids, anyone knows what happened to the Connect@Changi Expo that was converted to a swanky PD recovery centre by MOH?

My view (supported by my GP), is that under 2yo should be good enough. And 38.5C isn't really that high; above 39C would be of concern. Above 2yo, if they are generally healthy, they can be treated much like adults, just with pediatric meds. My kids have never seen a pediatrician, and rarely been to a GP.

It's not that there are various viewpoints, but it's trying to calm people down by telling them that paracetamol and ibuprofen are sold under many brand names, but as they are all the same generic drug, they will all work the same way. No need to all buy the 'leading' brands. People should note the drug name, not just the brand name.

Just a note to those with sensitive gastrointestinal tracts - ibuprofen is known to sometimes cause gastrointestinal irritation which can affect some people. For such people, it's best to stick to paracetamol products for fever and pain. My husband ended up in hospital with gastrointestinal bleeding after a course (his first, and last!) of ibuprofen, so now he strictly avoids it.

And if anyone is interested in the differences between the 2 drugs:

[note that in the US, they use the name 'acetaminophen' instead of 'paracetamol']
