Somebody over at the NYJC thread was claiming that taking 1 Science subject could be done under their Science stream. Or maybe I read it wrongly.[/quote]
yes. once you read one H2 Science, it is considered Science stream.

That's true, and in my view, a reflection of the view that \"science\" stream is more popular than \"arts\" stream! That way, more students can claim they got into the science stream. Combinations with just 1 science are colloquially termed \"hybrid\", but there is no such formal classification. The exception is the 2 maths + 1 science combination - that is clearly \"science\"!

          Today's post?
Probably ~ one year ago. The discussion about hybrid combinations. Maybe check at NYJC open house to be sure.

I assumed it was done this way to better control entry into the Arts stream. The hybrid students could outnumber the true Arts students? In which case fewer Arts students would enter (given COP differentials), and some of these Arts classes / programmes could be hard to keep going.

Of course, you could increase the spaces for Arts stream but there would still be variability between Hybrid and true Arts year to year.

Hello! There are good examples of possible subject combinations on many jcs' websites, which are pretty useful to just get a rough idea I find. Take a look!!

                Some random googlings:
                https://cjc.moe.edu.sg/eopenhouse/academic-information/subject-combinations.

A lot depends on the student. Which does your daughter prefer in terms of interest? A student who is interested will not find it as \"rigorous\" as one who is bored. Is she strong in Maths? That will make Physics easier.

My daughter took H2 Physics as she was strong in Maths, and didn't want to handle the more descriptive parts of Bio. She would probably have done fine if she had chosen Bio, but that was a personal choice.
                    Thanks for the reply!
Yes, she is strong in Math and she said she prefers bio too. But from the course syllabus, it seems that H2 Bio focuses more on cells, genetics etc. which looks to be very descriptive. So, she is leaning towards Physics
She is considering life science / pharmaceutical science in Uni and the entry requirement is H2 Chem with H2 Physics or Bio. Her concern now is that choosing Bio would probably make her transition in uni smoother.

Both thoughts are right - being strong in Maths will make Physics easier; and studying Bio will make the transition to life/pharm sciences smoother. My daughter took Physics as she is strong in Maths and knew she had no interest in life/pharm sciences. And I know some students who went on to study life/pharm sciences without having done H2 Bio - they had to do some reading up and self-study, but they all seem to have managed without too much trouble. Your daughter will have to consider which alternative is less attractive, and choose the other!

wef. 2024 (JC 1 or first year), ie. students born in year 2007, onwards :-

                        1)
PW (Project Work) will Not be included in your A-level RP.
PW, is either a … Pass or Fail.

Thus, this is indeed a great relief, to many students !

                        However, one question remains.
What happen, if you failed PW ?
                        What’s the impact ?

                        2)
                        your 4th A-level subject (be it H1 or H2),

may not even be taken into account in your computation of RP,

                        unless …

can help to improve your overall results.

                        3)
we do not have any more mid year exam. But, some Junior College(s) may still conduct mini Term tests, AFTER
your 2024 (JC 1) June school holiday has ended.

                        Because
JAE students only start their new JC Term 1 on
                        2 February 2024 (Friday), so

in some Junior College(s), they said that

After June 2024 June school holiday has ended :-

                        a) Term 2 mini-tests constitute
                        … 10 percent,

                        b) Term 3 mini-tests constitute
                        … 20 percent,

                        c) Term 4 EOY (end of year) exam constitute
                        … 70 percent.

RP : Rank points admission, into universities
