To spread out evenly,
Hi
MOE advocates all schools are good schools. Putting ACSP in a new neighbourhood Tengah is a good start. I hope they continue to diversify the school demographics to cater to parents who are not living in the city. Good investment to buy condos or HDBs in Tengah now !
even if one were to sprout new branches (new off spring) coming off from the same parent,
in different parts (district / town) of SG,
you can have (build) more than one remote branches,
but still must keep one branch inside the city area, and that is ACS (Junior).
ACS (Tengah), with her GEP programme intact = ACS primary
is considered remote,
some distance (several kilometres) away from the city, although trying to develop Tengah -

Apparently, the ACS Pri branding will start in Tengah neighborhood to be inclusive with its SPEC program in 2030 on a fresh slate taking in its first batch of P1 students there.
So those kids born in 2018 (take PSLE in 2030) will attend ACS Pri at current site for P1 to P5 and then go Tengah for P6? If so, those born 2018 onwards should find ACS Junior more appealing if they want to remain at one location for all 6 years. Did I understand the info correctly?
All existing students will stay put on Barker’s campus receiving “teach-out” support & Barker Pri will continue to admit siblings to its sch. From 2033, both ACSJ & Barker Pri will consolidate. Thence, there’ll be continuing enrollment within Barker Pri for siblings of existing students but will be fewer students sans 2B/2C (it’s not clear if 2b will be included). Which suggests from 2033, all classes incl Baker’s P1 will join ACSJ to consolidate at Winstedt Road tentatively in 2033. All classes will then shift to Barker by 2039 as ACSJ branding.
It’s going to be a first step to inclusivity, moving away fr elitism & towards “all schools are good schools”? I’m not sure this will sound good for the alumni & I suppose that’s where the initial ‘shock’ hit them, hence their negative reactions initially. I do hope eventually the alumni will accept this as part of the movement to adjust the “meritocracy” balance in society.
I look fwd to the day of lifting the pressure off future generations of primary sch kids fr too much tuition & parents will not need to push tuition after tuition upon young kids but allow for more fun learning for the sake of pursuing learning & education. Having said so, my wish may only be mine & tuition Centres wld hv new branches hovering Tengah I suppose. What wld neigbourhood parents do? Let’s hope this will not materialize. I think too much. -

Of course !
Unless ACS J becomes part of the triangle with the exit of ACS P. I would assume the \"city-living\" mindset still holds the attraction for most parents. I believe most owners are landlords firstly and having a choice school nearby for Singaporeans is but 1 of numerous marketing angles.
The monthly rental income fetched is so much more attractive, if u are a landlord owning a property in the city area, as compared to another landlord owning another property in the remote or out skirts area / district.
Another cause is, it is so much easier to find ready tenants looking for rental, in the city district town area, than in far away places. -

As long as ACS (Tengah) is a \"GEP\" school, those parents living in or around Tengah will remain ... kiasu

ACSP hv lots to offer in the Tengah neighborhood with its GEP & SPEC which ACSJ does not I suppose.
Thanks. I just read that ACSP will continue to admit Pr 1 boys in 2030 at Barker but it will be a smaller cohort.
I wonder why didn't ACS Board decide to just move ACSJ from Winstedt to Tengah instead of moving ACSP and then move ACSJ to take the Barker premises. -

There will be painful mindset change if ther “meritocracy movement” we’re to hv any effect ard the world. This is for the younger generation of parents to brush off the KS mindset. DS alr not participating in things he has no passion in but pouring all his time in learning everything that interests him outside of sch system. I’m can see how I’m ‘loosing control’ of his generation with all the support of new tech engines to push their learning.

Read an article in the papers yesterday whereby the ACS spokesperson specifically say that one of the main reasons for moving ACS Primary is that it offers GEP program so that more neighborhood residents can benefit from it..

But again, who knows how long the GEP program is going to be in existence, or how it will be transformed...
To invest in private property around that area now...hmm dont know how much the upside will be -

+1 (me too. Tengah is far. For me, Clementi West is the furthest)
As for me, I won’t go that way.
