For Oral (O level) National exam -
whether is
( pu hua, gao hua or English) Oral / kou shi,

anything can come out under the sun. You cannot spot Oral qn.

Why ?

Because

Oral is conducted over several days.
Different days, SEAB can set different Oral topic.
How to spot ?

Example
Refer to facts

Last year, 2022, Total, how many days of pu-hua (Oral); did SEAB conduct ?

Answer :
Total, Is 8 different days.

Started from when ?
1st day pu-hua (Oral), started on
Wednesday, 6 July 2022.

Last day, was on Monday, 18 July 2022.

What happened, last year (2022) ?
On different day,
from (6 to 18) July,
for 8 CONSECUTIVE days non stop, SEAB set different exam Oral topics. Some are easier, while others are very challenging.
eg. on medication / medicine / health.
Eg. Easy one on Reading, Is a common topic. Many students could handle well. Depends on your kid's luck on the actual exam day, whether your daughter / son has been assigned a easy or a challenging Oral topic !

So,
how to spot Oral exam question ?

Anything can come out under the sun, for Oral.

since u are so concerned, what Oral topic going to come out this year (2023),
suggest that
u ask your daughter,
to approach her class laoshi this same question, too.

Alternately,
since parents' briefing in Secondary schools are coming soon this February month, whether held via zoom or online, suggest that u can also ask her class laoshi, this same question too.

What is parents' briefing, for ?

During parents' briefing with school, parents can ask or pose any \"burning\" questions to any their child's class Teachers, for each of their (8 / 9 / 10) subjects, if any. That is the purpose, of conducting a parents' briefing. This parents' briefing, held right at beginning of the year, is different from the one to one personal parents' briefing, held at end of May, before June school holiday start. During this \" FIRST\" parents' briefing held in Semester 1 Term 1, any parent from the Secondary school class,
can ask their class Tr, in any subject, any \"burning\" question(s) that parents have.

Your children are already in Secondary schools. No longer kiddos, in primary schools.

Surely, your own children at Sec 3, aged 15, are old / independent enough, to at least approach their own class Chinese laoshi Teacher personally to clarify, any \"burning\" question that u (parent) have. We respect and salute Chen laoshi, because he is very kind, and shared many learning strategies with us, which I believed many had benefitted from him. :salute:

Please do not come to this forum here, to take advantage of Chen laoshi and ask him \" funny \" question. Chen laoshi is a very nice guy, Yes. Over the past decade, Chen laoshi had shared so many secret strategies on Chinese, both PSLE and at O level. No Chinese tutor had ever shared so much, like him before.

Sharing is caring as long - if we have more sources of information on this forum, it'll benefit more parents & students. So, please do not hesitate if there's need for assistance/clarification.

One key point phtthp mentioned was about how it is not wise to try and spot questions/prepare specifically for certain topics. The no. of days oral examination is being stretched over + the type of topics that can be asked in Paper 1 for both email/forum & discursive/argumentative essay is simply too broad. The topics tested will be related to local issues （e.g. 补习风潮，怕输心态，小贩文化）, values（e.g. 坚韧，家庭凝聚力）and global trends（e.g. 环保，科技）.

The key to success will be consistent, long term preparation. Read up on 逗号，watch news snippets, be updated about social/national topics. Sometimes, you don't even have to read in depth or in Chinese (of course, that will be the best, so as to learn the relevant grammar & vocab).

For example, when we were discussion on 论据 for racism, a student stated the incident involving the Ex-Ngee Ann Poly lecturer who made racist remarks against a interracial couple - having read about it in English on social media. Another example will be the latest Catholic High Sec 3 HCL WA's topic on 推迟上课时间利多于弊 - this topic was https://www.zaobao.com.sg/forum/editorial/story20211015-1203479 (when these students were in Sec 1).
