During yr helper’s absence, u might wanna explore NTUC Health Co-op.

They hv several locations, so u can arrange to be near u or yr dad’s current home in Tampines.

      Hope it helps.

So finally u’stand why u hv been thinking u need to pay yr helper for taking home leave even tho she’s not working.

I’ve many KSP members msg me & informed that their agents gave them pino helper’s contracts that build in “annual home leave with paid airfare”; “rest days for all public holidays inclusive SG & Philippines PH”; now I hear u having to pay for paid homeleave even tho it is not require. Typical of agencies with pino staff. I hope Eyers realize that whilst in SG, all FDW follow local MOM legislation & there’s no obligation to provide PH applicable only when they’re working in the Philippines. Most local FDW (incl other nationalities) dont event get PH as a rest day, except for some families, they get to rest when the families are away or join the host families for paid vacation.

I wld suggest for eyers to compare mkt practice then to be rushed by agents simply reading thro “main points” of contract before signing so as not to build any additional payments or benefits abv & more then what our local legislation & practices require, so that u do not cast them in stone unnecessarily & hv little room to adjust. Anything u want to give more & abv can be done on adhoc or ex-gratia basis.

Some reasons why I go with common practices :-

        1. Consistent to both legal & common practices so helper’s don’t compare in an uninformed manner & I don’t disrupt or rock mkt practices. This will mean I build only at the end of contract & families who badly need helper’s but cannot support higher base-salary & benefit to be compared out of reach to engage helpers

        2. Helper’s tend to compare only how much eyer’s give as salary but they do not distinguish what is std mkt rate, what is paying for appreciation, what is paying out of desperation of retention of domestic help, etc. Best eyers do not ‘pamper’ helpers when crafting contracts, but reward good performance & abilities separately. This motivates the helper on her job.

I’m appalled by despicable agencies or their engaged eyees who act on vested interests w/o properly & fairly informing 1st time Eyers looking to hire domestic helpers.

Hope the abv helps give insight & perspectives to young Eyers.

Yes, for the 1st contract by the agent, it was stated \"upon extension, 15 days of paid leave inclusive of return airfare ...\".
For the 2nd contract, I DIY and left the 15 days of paid leave out bec if helper returns to Philippines, she is having her leave and why do i need to pay.
For the 3rd ie upcoming contract, most likely I will DIY and will leave this 15 days of paid leave out too. The only issue is if this is acceptable by Philippines Embassy.

In Sep 2019 when I engaged the helper, it was kind of a rush bec dad was at SACH and due to return home but no helper employed. Thru word of mouth, the agent brought a helper and we did briefly read thru the contract and thought that as this was the standard practice, better quickly signed and get the helper to look after dad.

Don’t stress yrself. S’times we do make mistakes & need to forgive ourselves. Yoh had been instrumental in getting yr dad’s well-being taken care of. So kudos to you.

I don’t think the Philippines embassy can dictate pymt further than the common practice here in SG. Workers in SG, shld follow local practices.

Give it a go for the contract sans paid leave. I believe the only thing that matters is that her work permit has got a renewed term for her to return for employment & hence her tax. Ensure her POEIA is current & if expiring, she’ll hv to get it sorted out the moment she’s home.

Thank you for your kind words and strong encouragement.
W/o your sharing, it will be very challenging for me to go thru this task.
              Thank you.

Helper did mention briefly that she has to pay $290 tax. I keep quiet bec am not going to pay this item.

We’re all doing our best as daughters, DIL, mother & wife. We need to outsource basic work to trusted help & yet not be fleeced when we hv to work to finance some of these domestic helper expenses (salary, levy, airfare, food, etc). So we’ve also to exercise wisdom how to attract our helpers to return & find value in their feelings of their work without panicking & rewarding them unnecessarily. How I wish our own eyers pay our taxes, but thankful govt help ease tax our obligations.
They’ll test u hor, see if u’re kind to pay that sum which they think Sporeans will find it small.

Good that we can help each other & share fair practices. I’m also learning coz I don’t hire helpers fr Philippines for various reasons. Maybe someday I’ve to, nobody knows.

I ever think of changing helper to save some cost but guess I wont hv the courage to take up this challenge.

I will move on; focus to earn more $$ to fund all these expenses.

As said, having a helper is a necessity and is no longer a luxury.

I’m sure u pay lower levy for yr helper as caregiver to elderly? FDW Levy Concession enables u to pay a lower concessionary FDW levy of $60 a month.

Did u get the Home Caregiving Grant (HCG) of $200 per mth?
