Am thinking of how to transfer her out of NJ to another school. can she transfer to another IP school? She did not DSA into the school. her psle score was AL5 (D)

Your daughter sat for PSLE last year 2022 Oct, born 2010.

Since she did not accept any NJC DSA offer, Yes, of course
she can apply for Transfer into RGS / NYGH, since she has met their Cut off point. The only concern is, whether got any vacancy left ?

Today is February.
Your daughter is only 2 months, into Sec 1.

Next Monday morning, can give the schools a call, ask to speak to the VP, if got any vacancy to transfer her out now. With her score of AL5 (Distinction, for PSLE Higher Chinese), she can go to any school she want, provided got vacancy.

If RGS / NYGH or any other school that u desire say no vacancy now, then try again in October year-end, end of Sec 1.

Worse come to worst,
if Sec 1 year end (2023) still no vacancy,
then
try again next year (2024), end of Sec 2.
But, be mentally prepared that
she will need to sit for entrance tests in certain subjects for RGS / NYGH admission. Go to their school website, take a look at when are the test dates, to take the entrance subject admission tests.

At end of Sec 1, when u seek Transfer, no need to take entrance subject tests.

But at end of Sec 2, when u seek Transfer into selected IP Secondary
Schools, Yes, u will need to take their tests. Google for these schools' Transfer Application form content / instructions.

As long as your daughter has not accepted any National JC (DSA offer), she can transfer out, provided the other IP school has vacancy, willing to take her in. With her close to perfect score of AL 5 (D), she has no issue. Just be mentally prepared to answer this interview question, \"Why back then, in 2022, your daughter did not choose us, but choose NJC instead, when she has such a good AL score ? \"

The reason why schools are willing to consider her for IP Transfer is because, she only just started Sec 1, still in Lower Secondary, has met the official COP plus she did not accept any DSA offer.

hi thank you all for the advice! will give a call to the schools to see if there are vacancy…but in case transfer is not successful, just want to check with parents of students who graduated fr NJ, how did yr kids fare eventually in the A levels?

Have read many bad comments on reddit fr ex/ current students ranting abt the standard of teaching and certain departments, and this year dismal results has further confirm my fears…

hi all, my gal is in JH1 this year and I m concerned at the rate the school A level results is dropping. from medium UAS of 83.73 to 82.1 this year. from 40% RP > 85 to 33% RP >85. Considering the COP for both IP and JAE is at 7 and unchanged over the couple of years.. but their results are dropping year to year andworse than other schools with higher COP like DHS or even TJC this year. There must be something wrong with the school system and if the new principal still do not do anything about it, high chance NJ will drop from a mid tier JC to a low tier JC. Have always objected and quarelled with my daugher over her choice of schools when she could have pick any schools in sg with her grades.

From a good friend’s kid’s experience with the school, I do not think the school value-added to her kid and could have even value-subtracted. But worry not, this is always enrichment/tuition to turn to.

Yes.

Whenever a new Principal step in or change hands,
definitely
many pair of eyes will scrutinise her closely, assess, evaluate, in terms of Leadership skills, what will she do next, as head of the JC leading all staff and a few thousands of students, to turn the JC situation around ?

Based on last year 2022 NJC A-level results cohort, born in 2004, National Junior College is NO longer within the Top 5 JCs ranking.

Older one entered with less than 250. Graduated in high 80s with local university scholarship.


Personally find even the current environment good for personal growth except so many previous programmes had to be on hold in past 3 years due to covid. Even this year, not all is reinstated yet.

hi Panko, that is assuring to hear. may I know which year your child graduated?

i guess A level results before 2020 was still ok, but after that was downhill esp this year. major drop in medium UAS and % of students with RP > 85 also drop drastically this year
