Thanks! Do you also happen to have any recommendation of agencies which can help with the application process and portfolio etc?
UK universities' application (Oxbridge, Imperial, LSE, ...) is relatively straightforward using centralised application system UCAS.

US universities' application seems more complex and takes much more efforts (some Universities require multiple essays). It will be good to narrow to specific Universities and take a look at their requirements (search XXX University admission for first-year/international applicants). You can consider external consultants if your child still need help after consulting his/her school higher education counsellor.

      Notes:
      - Usually you can get lots of info by searching XXX University YYY Course Admission, e.g., Cambridge Economics Admission.
      - My DS and many of his peers applied on their own after 1 or 2 sessions with the school's higher education counsellor. They discussed with each other when they had queries with the application process.

      All the best.

        Hi ,

I also have the same question whether to apply scholarship first or university first. As most of the scholarship deadline is in Mar and UK university application is in Oct. How to apply at the same time? If my son misses the deadline for this yr scholarship, he can still apply next year. However, if he does not get any scholarship offer next yr and already being offer a place from oversea university for 2025 admission. Can he still apply for scholarship in 2025. Thanks!
Some Year 6 (JC2) students applied for scholarships before A-Level exam in 2022. Some applied for US/UK universities before A-Level exam. So some students already got scholarship offers and/or University offers (usually conditional offers) before receiving their A-Level results on 17 Feb 2023.

Check each scholarship criteria/requirement (brightsparks or individual website). The application window will be stated. Some scholarship will ask for year of university admission in its application form. It is best to check with each individual scholarship if it is not clear whether he can apply the next years (e.g., 2024/5).

        All the best.

Thanks! A lot of information to digest…surprised to see that schools like RI has their internal application dateline. And kind of to tickled by the underlined statement telling students that it is not compulsary to apply for for Oxbridge… as if that is the default for most students..lol

It is under Oxbridge Student Guide 2022/2023, and the exact quote goes like this…

-Is the style of learning at Oxbridge suitable for you? Will you enjoy university life there? - Oxbridge applications require tremendous investment of time and effort. Can you manage the application amidst Prelims and A Level preparations?
                - How are you doing in your subjects now? Is it a realistic application, considering these are top universities in the world? It’s not a ‘must’ to apply to Oxbridge.

For general advice on boarding school in UK(to do A level), is it better to talk to local education consultant or an online one will do?

Application is usually done on college’s websites, but say if we would like to understand more before deciding which one to apply for, not sure how to go about it…

                      Appreciate any advice. Tks!

I think it depends on what questions you may have. If it's to deal with the school itself, progress to UK universities, working in the UK, etc, I would expect that a UK consultant may be better able to give you details.

But if your questions are to do with eventually transitioning back to Singapore, especially if you have specific professions in mind, perhaps a local one will be more familiar. Also, you may want to have a more \"local\" viewpoint, in which case a local consultant may be able to address those issues.
