It is similar to how UAS score is rebased using Mother Tongue currently. If a student scores UAS 90, there is no need to include Mother Tongue for UAS calculation. If the score is below UAS 90, they can rebase using Mother Tongue and use the higher of the 2 scores (UAS with and without Mother Tongue). You can use online UAS calculator to see the scores.

So for the new system, if a student scores UAS 70, there is no need to include the 4th content subject for UAS calculation.
Thank you for the explanation. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Maybe the easiest way moe will do is to state that all applications using A level results taken before year x is based on old computation system. Anything from year x onwards is based on new system.

I think so. Something similar like the AO and A vs the H2 and H1 kind implemented years ago for University applications.

Not so simple as boys may apply during NS (i.e., 1 or 2 year after A-level). Also for those who retake A levels. So initially, there will be applicants from different A-level cohorts applying for the same university admission year, e.g, 2026, 2027.

It may not work out well because you can't compare a 90 pointer with a 70 pointer meaningfully?

It's a 'privilege' of NS, to have 3 opportunities to apply for local university.

Yes, the first cohort to be affected seems to affect those born in 2007 more as they do not have mid year exam starting from this year. From what I know, the WA is shorter version of exam but the questions are rather challenging in WA. The ten year series is still a good tool for students to do home exam preparation.

                    Hi

You also raised a very good point whether thereโ€™s a need to take contrasting subject.

Will taking H3 add value and enhance the chance to go University ? If it adds value like what HMT does, Iโ€™m sure more will want to take H3 subjects.
The way I see this change is that it gives those considered 'less good' now to be just as good as the 'good' ones now, because you only need 70 to be a perfect scorer, no longer 90.

Then as what the minister says, this should free up time to do other stuff like interests, cca etc etc.

I take this to also mean that for the 'good' ones to stand out in the new system, they got to do more of the other stuff, whether it is taking H3 subjects (which is only counted as distinction/merit but does not go into the RP calculation) or doing even more extra-curricular stuff.

They finally realised that PW is useless but no gumption to remove it totally. Because removing the PW will render all the PW teachers useless.

On one hand want to emulate the project/research aspect of IB, on the other hand don't have the expertise to do it for every subject. So create a PW .... ๐Ÿคท

๐Ÿ˜† boy you hit the nail on the head!!
So eventually, they still want all kids to go through the motion. But fair enough, at least no need to grade/count it in some narrow metrics.

I once also thought to myself, we will never get rid of PSLE or SG A levels to adopt the IB or other exams, otherwise what do we do with all the SEAB folks? Then again, isn't it good we have a ready pool of teachers/curriculum specialists to redeploy to schools to reduce class sizes?
