I'm guessing it is a possibility that popular courses who have to choose between a lot of 70 pointers may look at the 4th subject as a demonstration of strength in breadth and (intellectual/academic) capacity to take on breadth? After all, many of the popular courses (for example, Medicine), they want all rounders. If you are completely only science-bent or research-bent, perhaps that's not the profile they are looking for? Just saying it is a possibility.
CCS will disagree with you 😆

“To nurture the joy of learning, we want our students to follow their passions instead of only picking subjects that they will score well in,\" he added. \"This will also allow our students to better calibrate their learning load so that more time can be redirected to holistic development.\"

“ Under the new system that starts in 2026, the fourth content-based subject will only be counted for university admissions if it improves a candidate’s score.”

Thus, you can’t penalize a triple A Science student just because he / she wants to challenge himself / herself in a topic that he / she has interest in (like literature) but can’t score well in. The 4th H1 / H2 subject is purely for show… I mean for interest.

then all the KSPs here will be second guessing how and what the next layer of selection to popular courses is going to be heh! maybe the whole idea is to have hazier and hazier boundaries, more aptitude based / discretionary admissions (yikes are we going down the US university admissions way). It's a more varied landscape now - some will find it more confusing lol!

wahahhaha + GP which we all didn't study for.

Floppy had the bestest JC life.
TBH, I did :rotflmao: I had also benefited from doing pure physics and double math for my O.

In JC, I was wondering why everyone was so busy and complaining about the A Level / workload. GP was a killer though. Most difficult subject for me and I couldn’t study for it, even if I wanted to 😂

I thought we already know the answer?

All results being constant, the ones who can do 变脸 will be admitted first, the sword swallowers second and the fire breathers third.

              Hi

Can I clarify that if a student start with 4 H2s in J1, can the student choose the 3 best H2s subjects’ grading for University admission? It’s like you have 2 Humanities subjects grades but you chose the better grade one for application to JC.

              This chart is very clear.

Whatever you have studied as H2, they do not change even if the score is not great, eg. D and below
It simply reflects the competency level of H2 Physics is not having a good score but it cannot be changed to become a H1 subject. So scenario 1 is, if the other 3 H2 are good grades, grade of Physics can be left out in the UAS computation per the new chart. Maybe Engineering courses may state a minimum grade for H2 Physics in future if UAS is good enough to qualify but H2 Physics is not strong enough.

In scenario 2, the H1 subject is there as a safety net if it has a good score, assume \"A\" , then it can be used in the computation of UAS to improve it.

              New system calculation
              eg. H2= AAD H1=A GP = A
              Then 20+20+12.5+10 = 62.5/70
              Add in the H1, 20+20+12.5 +10+10 = 72.5/80 ---> 75/80 x 70 = 63.4275 <----Better score

              eg. H2= AAD H1=A GP = A MT = A
              Add H1 and MT 20+20+12.5+10+10+10 = 82.5/90 x 70 = 64.167 <----Even better score if MT is also an \"A\"

Btw, whether scenario 1 or 2, if Physics is consistently a low score subject in all exams, then please avoid applying for Engineering. If it is a one-off exam bad luck, then it's ok. Engineering is everything about understanding how things work.

No matter how loud or soft they adjust the volume, how many rounds the kids have to dance, or whether the music is classical, jazz, K-pop, Cantopop, heavy metal, rap or Middle Eastern, musical chairs is still musical chairs. Still have to push the other person out of the way in order to get one of the coveted chairs.

Based on the new chart to compute the UAS, the short answer is Yes.

I dont think we need to worry for those aiming for Law/Med/Dentistry. If need be, I am sure these kids can swallow sword or spit fire in order to stand out from the rest.

So we can assume that there will be many RP70s applying for other courses like Bis Ad, Accountary etc.? The Indicative Grade Profile (IPG) will then become AAA for half the local Uni courses? So what’s next? Conduct balloting for sought after courses that do not conduct interviews?

Minister Chan has to look into creating more vacancies for popular courses I guess, if not, we will still be back to square one. After all UAS is for universities admission and we do not wish to introduce other selection criteria for university admission. Otherwise, remove stress from doing away with one content heavy subject but add stress by not having sufficient places in local universities
