Can the imaginary me approach H2 theatre studies as a fun subject this way :
In the worst case scenario if i have trouble coping my 3 H2/GP, I will then only concentrate on writing the prologue and submit for term 1; concentrate only on producing a nice piece of act for term 2; scenes for term 3 and epilogue for final exam. I still get to immerse myself partly into theatre studies. Other parts of the theatre studies demands I will not be spending too much time too - using the same general approach towards them. I will fail that subject. But I had fun and got to explore a facets of humanity , and still taking care of my UAS. another scenario: I can cope reasonably well with my H2s/GP. I will then indulge myself in the process of producing nice prologue and act for term 1; honest scene and epilogue for term 2. Repeat again for term 3 and final exam. Again very likely I will fail that subject or if lucky, get an E. But my UAS still not affected. If I can cope very well with my H2s/GP, I will put together theatrical performance for the old folks.
A happier imaginary me can cope better the demand of A level too.
\"Theatre Studies\" Is offered only as a H2 subject, and not been offered as a \"H1\" subject at all, already means something or reflect something. It means that this subject curriculum is very demanding, heavy going, time consuming.
The \"imaginary you inside, seeking fun\" can take it light heartedly, in terms of \" suka suka \" don't want to attend this or don't want to submit this work assignment, as requested inside the curriculum by your Theatre studies JC teacher. You can be playful.
But don't forget one important thing. That is,
As long as u are inside a JC school compound (premises), when it comes to sitting or registering for A level exam, if u do not do or do not perform up to the minimum standard expected of what is required of a student for Theatre studies, the VP (Academic) inside Victoria Junior College, has every right to stop or bar students, from registering for the actual A-level National exam paper, Theatre Studies.
In reality, this can happen.

Bar students from enrolment, from registration for any National exam paper, in the 2nd school Term of May month.

(a real life situation, explained)
In a missionary Secondary school last year, for the O level 2022 held last year, there are some students who took 7 subjects. 7th subject, because as a backup emergency subject, for her L1R5 computation, in case one of the 6 subjects didn't turn out well. One student wanted to enrol for Additional Maths (O level) exam, 2022 last year.
But, guess what?
Secondary schools keep track of KPI.
The VP (Academic) in this Secondary school told this student :
No, u cannot enrol for A-Maths
because
1) this student has failed Sec 3 year end (November) A-Maths,
2) this student has also failed Sec 4 Mid-year (May) A-Maths exam.
In the end, VP (Academic) in this Sec school literally stopped this student, from registering for sitting A-Maths O level exam. In the end, this pupil only sat for Total 6 subjects (O-level), not 7, although she had spent her entire Upper Secondary (3 and 4), two full years learning (studying) A-Maths.
This student cried, because
she really wanted so much to sit for the O-level (A-Maths) paper, but couldn't. She said she don't mind getting a \"C6\" in her O-level (A-Maths), rather than not even be allowed to sit for the paper at all.
To her,
not even allowed to sit for the paper is far worse, than having a \"C6\" appearing / printed out onto her actual O-level physical certificate, for her #7 subject.
So, don't play a fool.
Whatever subject u study in, whether is O level or A level subject, take it seriously. Not play play -

Maybe the new A level system has met its objective: bring out the creative/ adventurous spirit in the imaginary me.
That depends on the imaginary you. For example, to get into JC from O-levels requires L1R5. That's 6 subjects. It takes a certain kind of kid to have the gumption to simply drop or not turn up for 1 subject. Only need 6 right?
And if the kid is aiming for poly, can drop another one!

We are all waiting patiently for more details on the uas change.
Just to share that the extra time freed up can still be used for own passion and hobbies, without exam.
If you are into theatre, you can still do self reading and do your own writing. Many online sources to tap on. For those passionate ones, usually they dont need to follow a structured curriculum. They will find their own ways.
A sec 4 boy, now in jc1. Join online uni forum to learn advanced physics. He had to self learn jc maths to do so too.
All without curriculum and exam. Back in sec sch, never submit hw and mum got complaints all the time.
With free time, they engage their own interest and hobbies. My girl self learning jap online and playing and self learning new pieces even though after grade 8. All without exam.
There are many others.
When one is passionate abt a topic, one can even forget to eat and skip sleeping to do more learning. So time consumption may not be so critical for kids who found their passion.
Yes, as parents we may be concerned of their future and how best they shld use their time. It’s not an easy balancing act. -
Not sure how it will be till more announcements made…but just thinking of studying without need to put that kind of emphasis on some exams is already exciting.
Exam sometimes can kill the passion in a person. Eg. some ppl just listen to self learn new songs…but tell them keep going through what needs to pass the exam…can really see the difference. -

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Exams are valuable in setting standards and making sure people meet them before they are allowed to progress, or do some job. I wouldn't want a doctor to operate on me without proof that he's passed some exams relating to the job he's doing. But do I care if he failed Lit at O levels? On the other hand, I agree that there are many things, like learning songs, where exams are unnecessary.

Even if there are exams, the person can always choose not to be stressed and accept a poor result if that's a measure of his ability or the work he put in. I know a classmate (now a doctor) who decided that she wasn't going to bother to study for her Lit O levels because it didn't matter to her. I don't know what grade she got in the end, but she knew it didn't matter to her medical career, and I doubt she was stressed by the exam (which she took) or the result.
I think what's wrong in Singapore is that people have a knee-jerk reaction to exams - every exam is a cause of severe stress. It doesn't have to be. -

Btw, I am not saying tuition is all bad, some kids really need that extra help if they cannot catch up with the pace in class, just not all need and not excessively like 2-3 tuition for 1 subject. Or, there could be more kids hanging out in shopping malls more frequently if they do not know what to do with their free time since no need to prepare for exams? Interesting to watch....

Having tuition is to prolong the missing gap, giving fish rather than teaching them how to fish. So now schs do now impart diagnostic skills and teach them to make use of consultation.
In a way, if the parent never let go of the bike, will never know if the child can ride it actually.
