Hi all,
Been bugging my girl to learn her multiplication table but to limited success…she memorised time tables of 1 to 4 but refuse to go on…
Any mommies here can share some fun & creative ways to initiate more interest in memorising the time tables ? I am at a loss of what to do next….
Many thanks.
Rgds,

Just wondering..... in the 3rd picture, you wrote 2x3. Should it be 3x2 instead ? That is, you have 3 groups of 2 clips. -

I had clarified with other parents in another posting about multiplication too.
2x3 should be 2 groups of 3 ie the group in the last pic should show 2 groups of 3 pegs each - which is according to some of the P1 assessment books and my boy P1 text.
the 'montessori' math enrichment that my boy attended in K2 however teaches the same concept as the pic above.
my guess is perhaps bud's either just using the pic as an eg, or that she is following the montessori method....

Heyya Emelyn, wonder no more... wonder woman is here to help

you in the wonderment? Hehee.. Ok mama, no worries. Chill.
Jedamum is right. I have also quoted her clarifications in my
postings on learning multiplication tables. Not so much of the
embedded Montessorian in me, but i profess to the there's no
hard and fuss rule to teaching children - especially the younger
ones. Being rigid in methods of teaching just means we are not
willing to be flexible - and that there's such a thing as : must follow
the norm or follow a so called fixed or approved method of teaching.
As different children prosper in their studies in different ways, it's
fine (by me, at least)... that myself and other parents of my students
explore learning experiences that are fun and motivating for their
children - even though i have implemented certain techniques in
line with how i am trained to work with for my classes.
Now, as per the picture mentioned here... By end of P1, children
wud have been intorduced to multiplication ala grouping methods
as what jedamum has explained. The practices given to the children
will be both ways. ie. the questions can come both ways.
No. of groups X fixed quantity (eg. 3X2)
or fixed quantity X no. of groups. (eg.2X3)
Jedamum is also right in saying that i put up this picture more for
just mere example being the reason. Its also okay to do thee other
way around.
It is more to providing visual ideas of what
parents can do at home to further revise with our children without
the need for enrichment lessons or to start with multiplication intro-
duction without that much $$$ to invest in the teaching process from
the comfort of home plus the fun factor opposed to rote learning.
Hope the explaination diffuses your wonder.
Thanks for bringing it up, Emelyn.
It helps if there were other parents who may
be wondering the same thing..
:celebrate:
Have a good week ahead, Emelyn. -
Heyya Emelyn,
Just to follow up...
Here are a few pages taken from
a Primary 2 Maths workbook on
multiplication questions, for your
reference on what has been dis-
cussed from the last posting..
Hope this provides a more visual
example.

Hi,
Care to share your opinions…My son is currently in Enopi Maths now, but then recently i came across some P6 past year papers and both hubby and myself also stumbled. I being a Kiasu mummy starts to ponder what he is going through now at Enopi might not be sufficient for his pimrary maths, was thinking of moving him to Andrew Er which specialise in challenging questions…So worrying after seeing the questions. -
Hi June,
I would like to find out more on Enopi? Is it like MPM or Kumon? -
Yes it it very much similar to MPM i heard, every week u get a few booklets of homework after the lesson to be complete and submitted the next lesson. The booklets are very colourful and will draw the attention of young ones. However this is a learning at your pace program and after a year or so I feel the pace might be slow and felt that it could be faster, this is just my thoughts

hi,
side track a bit…my girl is currently 23mths. She is able to recognise and read 1 to 13, 19 & 20 (the rest still got prob). Being a KS parent, i bought the National Georgraphic Literacy Maths books (for age 2 to 5) for her to aid her in her problem sums when she is in P1 (hopefully). I also bought Kumon ‘Write & Wipe 1 to 30’ book.
Besides the above, do you think she is too young to go for Maths enrichment class?
Any suggestion?
