All About Pre-school Math Enrichment

Hi,
Care to share your opinions…My son is currently in Enopi Maths now, but then recently i came across some P6 past year papers and both hubby and myself also stumbled. I being a Kiasu mummy starts to ponder what he is going through now at Enopi might not be sufficient for his pimrary maths, was thinking of moving him to Andrew Er which specialise in challenging questions…So worrying after seeing the questions. -
Hi June,
I would like to find out more on Enopi? Is it like MPM or Kumon? -
Yes it it very much similar to MPM i heard, every week u get a few booklets of homework after the lesson to be complete and submitted the next lesson. The booklets are very colourful and will draw the attention of young ones. However this is a learning at your pace program and after a year or so I feel the pace might be slow and felt that it could be faster, this is just my thoughts

hi,
side track a bit…my girl is currently 23mths. She is able to recognise and read 1 to 13, 19 & 20 (the rest still got prob). Being a KS parent, i bought the National Georgraphic Literacy Maths books (for age 2 to 5) for her to aid her in her problem sums when she is in P1 (hopefully). I also bought Kumon ‘Write & Wipe 1 to 30’ book.
Besides the above, do you think she is too young to go for Maths enrichment class?
Any suggestion? -

At this age, suggest you play more games with her as their motorskill for writing is not there yet. For abacus, they only encourage to start at 4YO only provided they pass the test of writing.hi,

Math is everyday life. If she can appreciate her natural surrounding relating to Math, it is much much more effective than in an enrichment centre where sitting discipline is required.
The other alternative to allay your fears is to put her in a Montessori kindy or childcare because under the Montessori program, they are strong in developing Math sense.
The other advice is if you really want your child to master Math, master English first, this will be a good first step to remove any barriers of learning Math later. -

Hi
Thanks for the suggestion.
Agreed that she needs to master her English first. That is why i have 'invested' in National Geographic Maths books.
Also, i am getting her to do some worksheets (counting). Hopefully with all these, she is able to solve the problem sums when she is in P1. -
Hi,
I was thinging of introducing Maths Enrichment Class to my son. My son will be 5 year old in coming Novemebr. Am I too kiasu to introduce now? I am afraid he might be able to focus on the lesson if the lesson more than 1 1/2hours.
Is there any enrichment lesson that do design for such young age.
Thanks & regards

You can try programmes that are going at own pace like Kumon and Enopi. Enopi will do a pre-class assessment before fitting children into the right math level.
The other thing to try which may not suit all kids is abacus. So this depends on your child, you have to assess. Most kids I know cannot take the heavy workload…alot of homework. -

I started my 5 year old on Kumon a few weeks back; thus far coping well. Everyday she will complete several sheets of ‘homework’ by herself (that will take her about 5 mins max). For me; it’s about discipline; it’s important that the kids knows he or she must complete her work before she plays. -
I started my 3.5 years old girl Jelic (MPM) 3 months ago and she seems to enjoy the class very much and recently CMA launch a school near my house which I am very tempted to sign up my girl at MPM. So which is it too much tht she goes for 2 classes?
