        Hihi,

My child is born in yr 07 and I stay within 1km of South View which is my No1 choice for pri sch.

Pls kindly advise do I need to do PV to guarantee my child can get into the school? If yes when should I apply to do PV. Also what are the chances of getting into the sch if I do not do PV and are there are ways to boost my child's chance of getting into this sch??

        Thks alot:)
SV did accept PV 2 yr in advance. For child born in 2007, u could start apply when ur child is 4 years old.
But dont get too excited abt SV, cos the Principal is due to move on, after having spent more than 7 years in SV. Under MOE, P will be rotated within 8 years.
Once P changes, nobody would be sure if the sch could preserve its standard. Note that teachers quality is about the same among all schools, it's the P who makes the big difference.

            Yes...
Last year registration had 330 seat, with only 51 seat left for phase 2C.
This year registration only has 300 seats, hence likely see less than 40 seats for phase 2C later.
Every year there are about 150 apply for phase 2C ( those within 1KM).
So....more or less 1 out of 4 will succeed in phase 2C ballot.

Hi, this is the first time I am goin to register my daughter for P1 for 2010. I stay in Yew Tee and I have studied the MOE website and got a referral link to onemap.sg to find out the distance from my place to YTPS.

To my surprise, the map showed the driving distance is 1.05km and De LaSalle is 0.47km, actually walking to YTPS school is so near that I wouldn’t need to drive at all.

Our choices of schools is priorty to YTPS and De LaSalle. But De LaSalle has relocated to Tech Whye for the purpose of renovation and upgrading the current school now. In addition, I hv learned that priorty will goes to Catholic and I am not.

I hv the following doubt, hope any kind mummy to help answering these.

              1. Does this mean I will not be entitle to Phase 2C for YTPS and have to go for Phase 2C Supp?

              2. If De LaSalle has relocated to Teck Whye, will my live place still be entitled to the phase 2C

              3. How can I or where can I get a better information regarding the distance accuracy before enrolling my daughter for the Pri enrolment exercise.

              4. If I have so much wanted to enrol for YTPS and the distance to the school is merely exceed by 0.05km(which is unreasonably an error calculation), will I still be able to allocate in the Phase 2C exercise?

I am Singaporean and sincerely hope some kind soul to verified and share similar experience.

              Thanks

catholics/church affiliations are applicable for Phase 2B; if you do not have this, you are under Phase 2C.

                - you are allowed to enrol in any school under Phase 2C if you did not fulfil any of the earlier phases eligibility. issue here is what are your chances of succeeding if you enrol in a school that needs balloting within 1km if you stay more than 1km away from the sch...the answer is Zero chance. past statistics showed that there are balloting for both schools for those staying less than 1km. so if you staying within 1km from both schools, you have a chance for ballot for any of the school you registered.

                2. If De LaSalle has relocated to Teck Whye, will my live place still be entitled to the phase 2C.
                - which phase you are in are depending on eligibility stated under MOE website - http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/phases/
distance to school will only denotes your success rate.
even if DLS is relocated to Teck Whye temporarily, registration will still use the permanent sch address as a benchmark for measuring distance.

                3. How can I or where can I get a better information regarding the distance accuracy before enrolling my daughter for the Pri enrolment exercise.

                - prior to your registration, just check with the school to see what is your distance from the school. when i was registering, the school did a check on the spot using their distance to determine the distance bracket.
i don't think the distance is using driving distance.

Hi jedamum, thanks for your reply. I have managed to get the Phase 2C choices of schools.

Thanks to your advice, with the onemap.sg, I manage to have found out the following Pri Sch is within 1km from my premises. I shall list them from the shortest range to the longest range in sequence.

                  (From Shortest to longest distance)
                  1. Kranji Pri Sch
                  2. De LaSalle
                  3. Yew Tee Pri Sch
                  4. Unity Pri Sch

With the above order, can I know does the school choose the applicant at the nearest distance or they just follow according to the criteria of within 1km policy.

                  Thanks

It does not matter if you are 0.99km or 10m away from the school. You will still be categorised as under 1km, and may be subject to balloting along with everyone else in the same category should the school be very popular.

                      Hi

My kid is due for P1 in 2012. I didn’t know CCK schs are so popular until I read this thread. Almost fainted. Yes, wanted DLS as its opposite my in laws’ pl as they will be fetching him. Another attraction is affliation to SJI.

Is being a Catholic certain to get a place?

I was not familiar with the other schs like Unity, Yew Tee, and Kranji pr as these are also within 1 km fm me. But further for my in laws.

Distance is my priority. But with DLS being so popular, wld like some advice on the rest of the schs.

Also, during my era, there was the typical "ah beng" schs where kids will loiter around and spew vulgar language loudly in public. I think u guys know what I mean. Hope no one gets offended but are there any in the CCK area that I shd avoid?

but dls is moving to teck whye for 2 whole years so if distance is a factor, would it affect yr decision??

btw, being a catholic would not gurantee yr kid a place but would put him in a better position during the phases of registration; he will get to be registered in phase 2B.... looking at dls's history, at some years balloting is also needed for phase 2B....but not for last year.... 😉
