Anyone knows parents whose child was a Top 50 finalist in the SOTA ART COMPETITION last few years? How did it help in the SOTA DSA or does it help in anyway? Thanks
I'm quite certain that being in the Top 50 helped to secure my DS' (VA) CO into SOTA. It would seem disingenuous (or at least odd) for SOTA not to use their own competition as a means for identifying potential students in their school. It is certainly not the only means for giving the student an advantage but I believe that it does help.

That said, I don't know if the SOTA Art Competition alone is sufficient. I suspect that it will need to be bolstered with other forms of recognition along the way plus reasonable academic performance.

Thank you. And also the long post end of last year.

        Keeping our fingers crossed.

Yup. Racing against time to complete the remaining portfolio pieces.

Just had an art exhibition last week.

How is your son enjoying VA in SOTA?

        Is the schedule hectic?

He opted not to go to SOTA in the end. While it was a great option, he chose a different path.

PM me if you want to know more.

              Hi All,

May I check for DSA Sports, there are 10 supporting documents to submit? In report book already stated participation and medal, leadership role eg vice captain, monitor.

Can the below be submitted as all this not stated in the report book:

              1) Certs given by the school eg. good character/leadership/star student
              2) Participation certs for maths/science olympiad
              3) GEP qualified to go for 2nd round (Passed 1st round) - No cert only notification letter
              4) MOE awards certs

The DSA application form does not accept attachments. U will be unable to attach such documents, though it is a good idea to keep the hard copy docs in a handy folder to bring to interviews.

U will have 10 free-text fields (limited to a certain character limit, not word limit) to type in the child’s achievements that u want the panel to see.

Closer to May, MOE will make a template available and then u can play around with your entries to see if they can fit into the 10 text boxes.

Honestly, depending on what you have on hand, just fill in as many as you can? If you have more than 10, then prioritize and rank them. If you have limited achievements, then just fill in everything that may help. There isn't right or wrong in this case. E.g. for my ds, as he was applying Sports DSA, we included his distance swim certs and the swim saver gold achievements as one entry, altho he was not applying swimming domain. Just to show case he is strong in stamina and love sports etc.

So which subject group was skipped for the above lady to take another Science?
                    (cannot be ARTS right?)
IB only allows replacing group 6 (arts) with one among the groups 1-5. In other words, G1-5 are compulsory.

Since SOTA doesn't allow you to skip arts, the only way to avoid Arts is to change school.....in that case will be O- or A-level. Very unlikely MGS will accept you in their IB unless you are extraordinarily extraordinary!

                      That's my exact curiosity too.
How to get that HL bio/physics

Or, is there a longer / more complicated (but possible) route to *medical school after SOTA IB?

Yes, do any first degree with good results and try Duke-NUS, that's the longer route as Duke-NUS is only a graduate course. You can also try to get an early admission before completing the degree but read up the details in Duke-NUS site for the pre-requisites.
