It is not related to the Direct School Admissions Exercise. However, participants who show outstanding performance will be taken note of.

Wondering how many SPSO Golds this year since now it is open to all P5 students without any limit per school. So should be same as NMOS Golds? If that’s the case, then an SPSO Gold might not hold the same weight as earlier in DSA.

There are not many popular local Science competitions. It also depends on which secondary school(s) the student is applying and the portfolio of other students applying to the same school.

There is a good chance that a student with SPSO Gold will get a CO/WL. If the student has passion in Science and likes the secondary school, go for it (do check out the required commitment for the talent area but it is usually nil/minimal for some IP schools).

Hi parents, any idea if there are any science olympiads which we can register on our own?


My P3 kid has a strong interest and we started letting him try out the science olympiad books from popular since P2 and he seems to be able to do most questions or do his own research. We’re not sure how different the olympiad questions from popular are compared to the ones hosted by RI and NUSH though.

For invitation to RI science olympiad do they only open to certain primary school? my child’s primary school doesnt seem to participate and i’m trying to find out from the science dept if there is anyway i can register for my child.

RSO/SPSO are for P5 students. RSO has restriction on number of participants per school but no such restriction for SPSO. I believe all local schools should be participating. Also, SIMCC conducts ICAS Science and Vanda Science competitions which you can try out before P5.
