      Not sure about other schools.

My daughter submitted and I also read last year winning entries. I realised my girl has no chance. My girl wrote a good story but that wow factor is missing.

However, my girls' friend is very good....I read her essays last time and they are highly creative. Infact her friend was finalist in MOE creative writing workshop last year. But she was also not shortlisted by SOTA.

Nowadays everything is on Parents Gateway, so I not sure why some schools don't publicise.
By the way, I hope you’re aware that Parents Gateway is but a means for disseminating information.

The information is pushed out based on what each individual school wants to disseminate. MOE doesnt regulate this or insist that it be uniform. Hence u could see the case last year that some schools (I guessed it was those without affiliation) would push out lists of secondary schools’ Open House dates. Whereas ACSJ only informed us of “ACS family” open houses…

But there are certain announcements that come directly from MOE (can see the sender in PG). Eg some Covid-related measures which were nationwide.

If a student gets \"honorary mention\" but no medals, which schools are good to apply under DSA math?
        Slim chance.

“Honorary mention” is a polite way of saying “Thank you for your participation. You are ‘almost’ there, but not quite there.”

There is nowhere on the form that says must be invited to submit.

I also ownself submitted for my son. Put English teacher’s name no big deal cos he was one of his fav students, so what if the panel wants to check something. But then again, even if he was not the pet, cannot put name meh?

U mention your DD’s friend took part in MOE creative writing comp. This is a GEB event isnt it? Not open to public.[/quote]

Yes, GEB. School nominated some people who went through a training programme. Then there were two more rounds. This friend went to the final round.

SOTAs expectations seems to be very very high from the samples I read. The essays are like poetry and transform you into the story ....almost like well established authors writing novels.

Do apply if your son loves mathematics and sciences. My friend’s son got in without MO experience but was truly passionate and displayed his love for these subjects through other ways. There will be a test and interview, also it may be a matter of supply vs demand in terms of his chances. Do take note that these math and sci subjects are taught in a highly accelerated rate there. All the best to your child!

Thanks! Yes, NUSH is his first choice, very keen to study there and he will try his luck for DSA.

If we do a simple Math experiment.....if only 50 to 100 students grab all the medals in a cohort, then NUSHS and the other DSA Math places still need to be filled by students without medals.

If my assumption above is right, your boy has very good chance. But don't tell him yet :xedfingers:

                        Hello parents,

May I know what are the chances of securing a Raffles Institution Science DSA offer with the following achievements
                        - Raffles Science Olympiad Merit
                        - Temasek E-THINK Challenge Honourable Mention

Don’t wanna waste my son’s choices if chances are slim.

                        Thank you.
