Yes, GEB. School nominated some people who went through a training programme. Then there were two more rounds. This friend went to the final round.

SOTAs expectations seems to be very very high from the samples I read. The essays are like poetry and transform you into the story ....almost like well established authors writing novels.

Any chances to get in NUSH?

Do apply if your son loves mathematics and sciences. My friend’s son got in without MO experience but was truly passionate and displayed his love for these subjects through other ways. There will be a test and interview, also it may be a matter of supply vs demand in terms of his chances. Do take note that these math and sci subjects are taught in a highly accelerated rate there. Thanks! Yes, NUSH is his first choice, very keen to study there and he will try his luck for DSA.

If we do a simple Math experiment.....if only 50 to 100 students grab all the medals in a cohort, then NUSHS and the other DSA Math places still need to be filled by students without medals.

If my assumption above is right, your boy has very good chance. But don't tell him yet :xedfingers:

Very slim chance.

It is good to short-list a few secondary schools based on his projected AL score, interests (CCA, special programmes, ...), distance, culture, ...

We brought our son to 3 open houses. He got to know more about these 3 schools via the DSA process. E.g., Open-houses (interaction with teachers/ sec students, visiting the CCA booths, …), DSA interviews, selection tests, …

Even if the DSA is not successful, it is a good chance to know more about the schools and will help in the selection of schools after PSLE results release.

If this is your son's best shot, go ahead then. Just to share, my child applied science domain last year with other school. GE, masterclass, SPSO silver, science result AL1, overall AL5, didn't shortlist for round 1. However, my child did secure a CO for another domain, same school.

Since u mentioned masterclass, may I know how many people in total invited last year? In my girl’s school, she mentioned only 1 boy went for math masterclass last year (not sure about science). And science for this yr about 5 invited last month.

Actually what is this masterclass thing in first place. Appears like only a very select few invited…
