      Dinah,

This term ‘full school’ is rather confusing for parents.
As it is, CHIJ has a umbrella of schools under ‘CHIJ’, yet there is no affiliation, like CHIJ Kellock to CHIJ St Teresa Sec.

"Full" school simply means the same principal runs both the primary and secondary school. The primary school hence enjoys a longer Nov/Dec holiday than regular school. The downside is that the 4th term is very short and the SA2 exams also starts/ends earlier than other schools.

          Hi Keroppi,

Thanks for the info…something new to me.
My SIL’s daughter is in CHIJ St Nicholas. Now I know why her daughter starts her year-end hols so early.

the origin of full school is that it is a seamless 10 or 12 years under the same principal. (last time sec school also a pre-u centre)

these are the legacy of the past, when schools were started / funded / managed by private individuals or clans…ending as ‘gov’t aided’ schools of today as MOE must have control over all standard curriculum schools

new schools these days are all fully funded by MOE, hence they are government schools, controlled by MOE

              Hi Mummies,

I know this sounds rather silly but still would like to ask. 😛
Will there come a day when affiliations to the secondary school cease ??
We will be registering daughter in CHIJ TP next mth because of the affiliation to the secondary school just beside...and kinda worried about this. Please advise. Thanks.

Dont think affiliation will ceaase - it is for schools to maintain the culture & value.

                  Hi mummyjoyce,

I certainly hope so or else we would be pulling our hair out. :frustrated:
Once daughter is in the school, we would have one less worry...of course we will still hope she will do well and get into a better class in same secondary school.

For full schs, both the secondary and the primary section are in the same sch compound, the primary section closes early for year-end sch holiday due to the O levels.

This year, St Nicholas is upgrading their sch, so the Primary section is in a different holding sch from their Secondary, thus NO more priviledge of having early year-end sch holiday for 2 years, till they get back together again.

For all you know, they may build their new campus in such a way that the sec & pri school areas are separated, so there's no need to end early either after they are back in the same campus! That's what happened in Cath High! They have separate canteen, separate hall, separate assembly area...

I think some parents will be very happy if St nic no need to end early even after they move to their new campus.
