Hi!

SInce I'm taking Higher Chinese, I'll be taking O level Chinese in Sec 3.

A bit worried cause my Chinese isn't very strong and I'll be tested the same content as a sec 4 taking express Chinese.

Any experience?
Is it tough?
Is it true that if I get below B3 I must drop hcl and retake chinese o level in sec 4? TIA

Different Secondary schools,
set different ruling, on O-level (pu hua).

How old Is your child now ?

1)

if your kid is taking PSLE this year, choosing which Secondary schools to enter,
then

kindly avoid choosing or applying to those very strict SAP Secondary schools like

Chung Cheng High (Main),
Anglican High,
etc.

If this is your concern.

Because
these two sample at random SAP Secondary schools
imposed a very strict minimum grade requirement in your O-level (pu-hua) score taken at the end of Sec 3 (November),
assuming that
u are a HCL Secondary school student,
before

these schools allow their students to take O-level (gao hua) in the immediate following year.


Question

How to know,
whether that particular Secondary school which your P6 kid is interested in,

has this very strict minimum O-level (pu-hua) imposed requirement, or not ?

Well, you (parent) can just call up the Secondary school that u are interested in,
request
to speak to their Chinese Head of Dept, to clarify your doubts first.

This way,
before u even submit your 6 choices of Secondary schools choices to MOE for processing,
once PSLE results are released on Announcement day,
u already know before hand that for sure, u won't be choosing those Secondary schools, that imposed this type of strict requirement(s) on O-level (pu-hua).


2)

if your child is ALREADY currently studying inside an O-level \"Express\" stream Secondary school,
then

kindly ask your child
to approach
either his own Secondary school's Chinese HOD

OR

approach his own class Chinese laoshi, on his (her) own initiative, whether got this type of strict rule imposed in school, or not.


3) if u are currently an \"IP\"
Secondary school student,

NO need
to take any O-level (pu-hua) at all.
You need only to sit for your O-level (gao hua) one time, at the end of your final year 4-IP programme, before u move up into your awaiting partnership year-5 affliated IP-JC.

It depends on which school you’re in, please check with your Chinese teacher on your schools’ requirements. It will be beneficial to communicate well and build strong rapport with your Chinese teacher! All the best!

Just go directly to your Nan Chiau High school Chinese HOD & verify. You can write an email yourself to the HOD, to clarify.

Now in Sec 1, I had enrolled him to RMSS Chinese but he is saying it’s not effective. I am thinking of changing to another chinese tuition center or even private chinese tutor. Any advice or recommendation, appreciate if you can pm me. Thank you!

You go to the wrong tuition centre, lah !


If u want your kid to learn Chinese well in Secondary school,

don't go
to those tuition centre,

eg. RMSS

that teach almost every single subject. The wrong choice of tuition centre, will lead your kid to nowhere.

You ought to choose those tuition centre, that specialise only in one subject : Chinese, nothing else. Then, your son will do well, in Chinese (subject).
