No. I do not see any reason to be cordial to anybody spreading divisive xenophobia in Singapore.
Nobody taught you manners before? Even if you want to reply to a post you don’t agree with, be civil. Using terms like BS only betrays your lack of vocabulary to express yourself appropriately.
回乡证 and the concept of permanent residency in HK are not dependent on nationality. There is no such thing as HK citizenship. When I see BS, I call it BS.
\"Permanent residency\" in Singapore is not even permanent. -

She should have replied \"你傻的!我在新加坡看Malaysia医生才一块钱!\" :slapshead:
As a proud Singaporean, I have often asked a few PRs why they didn’t apply to be Singaporean. From their answers and chitchatting, I found that most actually have done their sums, it could be for land ownership or welfare perks. I once asked a Malaysian friend why she didn’t apply for SC despite her daughter and son-in-law residing in SG. She told me, “你傻的! 我在Malaysia看医生才一块钱!”
What an oxymoronic complaint. \"我在新加坡住院看Malaysia医生.\"
As a proud Singaporean, I often ask PRs \"你们可以钱来人不来吗?\" -

What divisive xenophobia? Pinning labels on others when their viewpoints differ from yours?

I welcome foreigners. I have investment properties rented out to them. I do not need to squeeze public transport nor do I need to use the public hospitals. I can safely say that I am least affected by these FTs. But once they hit 62yo and do not contribute to SG economy anymore but still decide not to give up their original citizenship for our pink IC, my suggestion is for them to go back to their homeland for retirement as we enter super-aged stage. PR could then be given to younger talents.
回乡证 is for 港澳台同胞 only, are you sure Singaporeans are allowed to hold 回乡证?Once you hold a Pink IC are you 新加坡人 or still 港澳台的人?Unless you prescribe to the view that S’pore should be 坡县?
You have not answered my earlier question, will my HK friend lose her HK public housing unit once she chooses to be a Singaporean? -

What are you talking about? They contribute to Singapore's economy by spending their money here. PRs do NOT enjoy the same level of subsidy as citizens.

How is amplifying \"us\" versus \"them\" based on half truths not divisive?
As for your earlier question, just look up HK public housing eligibility.
Why is it that some Singaporeans always assume that the whole world applies the same principles and concepts as Singapore? They always assume that because things work this way in Singapore it must be the same everywhere else.
For example, they do not understand that giving up say Indian citizenship means nothing because a person of Indian descent can always re-obtain it. It is not a one-way irreversible process like Singapore. India, like China, is a civilization state.
This makes their fixation on Singapore citizenship laughable. It doesn't work because the assumption that it means permanently giving up their old citizenship is not really true. -

Some had tried applying PR status for at least 6-19 years & hv not obtained despite producing the required funds & buying properties here. Those who had obtained, hv to ensure they reside in SG for at least 2 years in order to renew their PR status (think this is still the same for Australia when my SIL applied & before hubby retired).
All my Indonesian frd & family who are PRs do not qualify for any subsidies that we SC enjoys, including schooling. My Indonesian frd applied for & eventually obtained citizenship after their sons did their NS & this resolves my curiosity why they had always been going gor Mt E treatment & not send their children to PolyClinics for simple ailments. They started going to GPs & enjoys local rates whilst they lament their helpers still hv to pay higher medical fees even for flu or cuts & I juries.
So yes, in many ways PRs are contributing to our economy & disadvantaged in many ways. Our govt ensures the system is not abused by ppl coming to burden our resources as seen in education & medical care. I’m sure most well run countries will make their local resources efficient to benefit citizenship & loyalty. -

Oh ya, your post reminds me of my rich Indonesian neighbor. She would rather pay high school fees for her boys studying in local schools than to give up her Indonesian citizenship! Her parents have multiple properties and businesses in Indonesia for her and her siblings (still residing in Indonesia) to take over.

I am sure she has done her own calculations!!! Knowing she is disadvantaged here in many ways, yet still NOT willing to give up her Indonesian citizenship for our pink IC, the advantages must have outweigh the disadvantages. -
It is very hard to denounce our link to our birthplace esp when we hv built strong family ties & frdships.
A PRC group of old neighbors had recently lamented even when they put in more then 20 million into bzness & homes, their PR applications are still pending & one child almost finishing Int’l school, whilst the sister hv graduated & the father put her name in one of his a company, with a condo & a commercial outfit in her name. The younger one waiting. Our govt getting very selective & don’t grant PRs easily as we used to do. I told her, funds & properties may not be the only criteria now, unlike in the past when we needed very much to boost our population & all M’sians & PRC students get a letter of invitation to take up PR even before they graduated in their final year. -

Not all PRs here are rich. Many work at jobs here which are short of labour, and work hard. Many are here because the situation here is better for themselves and their families than back home, but it doesn't mean that their situations in Singapore are better than the average Singaporean. Admittedly, there are the rich PRs whose lavish lifestyle make them stand out, but we shouldn't tar all PRs with the same brush. Also, the Sg government doesn't hand out the pink IC that readily to PRs. Many apply repeatedly and don't get it.

I am aware of what you have written but it’s neither here nor there. I am talking about PR retirees who are no longer contributing to our country but will still need to occupy a hospital bed in 2030.

Those who are still contributing to our economy (example, as nurses) then of cos, by all means renew their PRs. And for those who fail to get our pink IC despite applying repeatedly for decades, then something must be wrong somewhere. I suggest this group should also go back to their homeland for their retirement come 2030.
When your loved ones need immediate medical care but the earliest available medical appointment is 6 months away during super-aged stage, you save your loved ones first or a non-citizen (and their parents first)? This is the stark choice we will face unless steps are taken before 2030.
