Was looking at how crazy the COE is these days. I am also dreading the day when I have to give up my car, whether due to owning a car being too costly or being unfit to drive. Growing up we had a family car, then I got my license and my own car when I was in my early 20s and have been driving since then.
I have little choice now. Likely renew unless more than 150/200..then need take mrt le
Right now I don't even have an ezlink card for taking MRT. And am totally lost as to what bus or line to where. It will be a change that I will take some time to get use to. Not to mention my issues with crowded enclosed places. I've fainted in MRTs before during peak hours when I had to take the train to/from work before I got my own car.
I still have a few more years before the COE on my current car expires. So :xedfingers: and
that the COE comes down.
-
Suddenly I aware I am so fortunate because I don't afraid the rise of COE because I can always take public transport to everywhere in Singapore. I know all the MRT and most bus routes and can plan for my itinerary. I don't afraid of the rise of private property price because I can stay in a small HDB house at non mature area. I don't afraid the the rise of GST because I can have my meals at hawker centres........and my family have been receiving the U save rebate, etc from the Government.......:)

Good for you LNW.
My car COE is also expiring in a few years time, by then if COE still at sky high rocket prices, then no choice extend COE 5y to lessen the pain, cheaper than getting a brand new car which we always do for the sake of maintenance. Though our kids are big Liao, still need car la……to ferry our elderly or emergency medical situation for them. For those who hv been driving forever (ie my hubs), it is not easy to convert to PT like the rest of us do. -

Same here. My family has no car, we eat mostly home cooked food and we stay in a humble HDB bought more than a decade ago.

End of the day we are blessed with good health and a comfortable happy home. And that is enough for us. No headache over COE, rising prices, gst etc. -
Both my dh & I definitely ok without car. I even suggested to dh but dh says it is ok as we get a bit more of convenience.
Then look at it to console ownself…alamak actually the maintenance fee also not cheap de and we almost dont use it except for the carpark lot… never mind la…So long as it doesn’t go crazily high just use the car for a while more la… -

It’s good to live a life of contentment.

To know we hv sufficiency in life is a blissful way to conduct ourselves. If we hv more than the next person we meet, it’s nice to share & hv double joy so we sharpen the next person to live with hope.
It is a weakness to hv had plenty, not able to share or let go till the end. We can’t bring with us to the end, but worse when what we left behind becomes a discord when relatives fight over them against your wish, but alas, we can’t doing anything to help them live in peace when in we’re in spirit form.
I don’t rely on my husband to drive me all the time. I enjoy the freedom of self-travel whether via public tpt or Grab/Taxi. I value my husband enuf to leave his free time for rests, but he wld always want to give me a ride wherever. I won’t mind if we’ve to let go of our car when we age & can’t drive. Live life as it comes, accept & age gracefully. -

LNW,
Just think, my family never have car but we can live happily in Singapore. There are many students taking bus and MRT to school every morning. Why you need to feel sad?[/quote]
Do NOT ask people this qn, \"Why u need to feel sad ? \"
Why ?
Because
You need to show empathy,
to people, who do need a car !
Next time, before u start posting any wishy washy statement, think through, first. What happen, if I flip the other side of the coin, a car is indeed needy, for some people ?
============================
If u don't need a car, just depend on public Transport like mrt & buses, taxi for travel,
then,
of course, no need to feel sad.
No matter how high the COE surge, doesn't affect nor impact them at all, in any way. They are immune to the exorbitant costs of sky rocketing COE costs.
However, for those who badly need a car, then is very sad, because for them, car is a necessity, not a luxury.
Example
=======
Suppose X is a parent, living in Chua Chu Kang and
have a kindergarten K1 autistic son aged 5 years old,
who every week, need to travel at least 2 times down to children KK hospital, for both
(Speech Therapy)
+
(Other type of Therapy).
Young children tend to get tired easily, because after finished attend kindergarten lessons every morning, from Monday to Friday, his parent X still need to bring him down for Therapy, in the afternoon, at children KK hospital. Even though the young kid is tired, he still need to go, for Therapy.
Otherwise,
when come the time due to enrol this kid for Primary 1 registration, when this kid still got problem with speech, then he will have a tough time in Primary school, if he is still not ready by then. Don't forget, when come to Primary 1 English, u still need to pronounce the vocab words, and got spelling some more ! -
MrsKiasu has never mentioned her dds are autistic kids or need to go for Therapy at hospital or having any speech problem. When we were small, most families were not having a car but we could grow up happily.
