I learnt a lot from you.
Having a helper is no choice.

The premium for health INS for helpers is likely to increase much due to the increase in coverage from 15k to 60k. And she is going home for 2 wks this year while still receiving her salary. Am thinking no payrise for her this time.

      \"bombs\" :
      Return airfare plus travel INS
Respite care fees of about 17 days plus admin costs/consummables
      health INS for helper
      WP's renewal fee
An ang pow for her bday since it falls on the end/start of Contract
      etc

Also the fees for 6mth Medical Examination is going up and up ...
I’ve learnt along the way too & happy to share. Just last 2 days managed to help ano check frd find a transfer Mynmar helper. Have do many asking to work in SG but they’re all locked in their country. None of them can get a passport to exit & those who choose to return, found themselves stuck with no jobs & living in fear of the corrupt & autocratic rule. Sad.

Am going to ask a sensitive qn:

How much do you pay your helper who looks after a senior in a household comprises 2 members ie senior and helper?
        Thank you.

Depends on individual abilities, job extent, some pay are due to circumstances. Also bear in mind one with $550 & every weekend off-day & ano $700 w/o a single day-off or time off for going to transfer pymt back home or to church & back.

For home leave, other than airfare, there’s nothing else need to give.

I’ve always hv concerns with frds who feels ransomed not to give large increments to retain their helpers due to over-dependency resulting in helper salary rocked high then it’ll be normally grow in gradual terms. I guess, by the time our generation grows old, we’ll not be able to afford these helpers just as housing hv outpace young ppl’s affordability these days.

Is it safe to leave a dementia elderly with a newly hired helper? Or is it better to go to a nursing home?

For my case, the 15 days of home leave is paid ie she still draws a salary when she is in Philippines. I will tell her am giving her paid home leave is out of good will bec MOM doesnt require the employer to do so.

We need to buy travel insurance for her when she is away, right? This will be another cost.

For renewal of WP, the govt said the insurance coverage will be increased to 60k. This translates to a hike in premium?

If I give much increment, I feel the pinch bec prices of everything has increased. If I dont give, she is facing inflation at home too.

Hence, am asking around before I make a decision.

                    I cant answer your qn.

For a nursing home, how many staff to the seniors.
At home, it is helper to the senior.

Of course, now hiring a helper is no longer a luxury but a need. The cost isnt cheap if you count her salary, MOM's monthly levy, the 6mth ME, her room and utilities/food etc.

Thanks Starlight. I asked because we had bad experience with a few helpers in the past and stopped having one for many years. But wondering if we should have one for the dementia elderly. Problem is I don't have any room for helper and elderly. The only option is for elderly to stay alone at his own place with helper. We are worried after reading all those abuse cases. No experience with nursing home too.

My dad lives alone with a helper and a tenant ie each has a room.
We hv cctv in living room and his bedroom.
My dad has limited mobility and may hv dementia.
We will remain in such a situation until buay tahan then Nursing Home.
