Well, not all parents see it that way. If all parents see it that way, then why do parents not send their children to schools that are just immediately next to their house? These schools, historically, had vacancies even at Phase 3.

Some parents do not see distance as a factor…I’ve mentioned this b4 earlier of a boy who goes to Catholic High although staying in Upp Bukit Timah. He sleeps all the way to school…reaches home at 330pm even though school is dismissed at 130pm. The poor boy hates school.


Parents, don’t cheat. Firstly, kids are kids after all. They will divulge secrets. Singapore is a small country. It’s easy to catch those who register their kids in elite schools when the family isn’t staying in the address stated on the IC. Why put your child through this kind of embarrassment and get yourself in the newspapers ???

Actually many kids travel long distances to school, not necessary due to their parents cheating on the addresses, but rather some registered under phase 2A and their parents’ old schools are now far from their current locations…

Noone can be sure how long we will stay in our current place.

In general, Singaporeans are quite mobile in relocating within this small country.

There’s nothing wrong that you found a new place to stay or for whatsoever reasons need to shift to a new place after registration.

However, the key point is : Never register to a school that is far from your place (whichever current or future). How far is far - ask yourself how many hours /minutes is the max you wish your kid travel daily?
Be mindful of Traffic Conditions if you are not familar with the area of your preffered school!

I have 2 friends and 1 relative who got their kids into Nanyang Primary. One stays in Bishan, another in Clementi and lastly Tampines… Within a few months after the school started, they had decided to transfer to schools nearby their homes.

I know of 'heng heng' family who balloted successfully into RGPS under 2C...and they live in CCK. Don't envy the distance the kids got to travel though.

hi, can check, if i rented a place from my friends house, which is near to the school i wanted , while i also have other property, will that be of any problem in the registration?

As long as you are staying at the rented place and have updated your NRIC address to that of the rented place prior to the registration.

So if my friend rents a room in my place and updates her NRIC address prior to registration, it is allowed and legal ?
