Same same..For Chinese, it helps a GREAT deal to write the characters in order to remember. According to the tutor, she said it's because chinese characters originate from 'drawings', so through writing several times, the brain will remember how character is to be written. I make my son learn his Chinese spelling/dictation the same way too.
Daughter in K2 has 5 words from her Sat RC class, which is getting more difficult as well as her school spelling this term. I really don't know how to squeeze in time to coach her, on top of that, my son also demanding attention as well. Both equally important.
My DD1 also in K2, the work load in this new CC which we just started this month is so much heavier than her ex-CCC.
Weekly: 4 words + 1 sentence weekly for spelling. 2 words + 2 sentences + 1 sentence in hanyu pinyin for Chinese. And 1 full page of Chinese writing on Tuesdays and Fridays and English and Maths homework on Thurdays. On top of all that still got Berries homework..
I am also struggling to find time to spend time and coach my DD2
BTW, how old is your son? -
RRMummy, her son is in P3 (like my DD1) so approx abt 8+ or already 9yrs oldโฆ

Thanks for the update buds. It is really nerve-wrecking to figure out how to maximize the little time we have with them in the evenings...

U mean you changed CC for your gal who is in K2? Considering that its just half a year more prior to primary, would u be able to share what trigger u to make the change?
Also, the homework listed above sure sounds ALOT for a K2 in CC. :!: My K2 gal only has spelling of 5 short sentences weekly, 5 sets of phrases for Ting Xie on alternate week. CC say cannot teach HYPY cos MOE say so
There is totally ZERO homework from CC. Hope we wont be in for a shock when she gets to P1 :xedfingers: -
RRMummy:
Wow that is a pretty heavy workload for a K2. Is your DD in full day programme or only half day?

Since my kids are in fullday childcare, they do not have any homework. Only once a week spelling and tingxie. There were parents who requested for homework for their kids but they were all told that the kids spent the whole day in the childcare doing work and learning so there is no need for homework and parents should spend the evening relaxing with the kids, not going through homework.
Even DD now in P1 does not get much homework. Only the occasional 1 or 2 page worksheet and of course her weekly spelling and tingxie. So I am really lucky I guess. -

No need to .
Yup, we change coz we moved our home from the north to the west.
I also think it is alot. Bck then in her ex-CCC, it was 5 words for English and 5 words for Chinese every week. And also ZERO homework. So it is a big challenge for her (and me).
She complains alot about the homework... what to do... tell her that she is a big girl now and have to learn to 'work' like primary school children..
On the HYPY, some CCCs are still doing it despite the MOE's no-no.. -

She's in full-day. I also think its pretty heavy. For us who work all day, I can't imagine still lug it back home a few days a week.. Poor things..Wow that is a pretty heavy workload for a K2. Is your DD in full day programme or only half day?

I totally go by your child's CCC's policy! Unfortunately, the choices of CC with vacancies are pretty limited at this time of the year for K2. And somehow, she is happy coz they have started practising for their year-end concert...   -
RRMummyโฆ CCC doesnโt give dictation practice?

Thks for sharing.

Actually its better for the kids to slowly get used to homework than get a rude shock when start P1. So in a way, your CCC is helping your gal in the long run
Abt the HYPY, my gal's CCC just tell us ( point blank) to send our kids to external HYPY if we wan to make sure that our kids are prepared for that portion for P1 ... most of the parents not happy abt it :x ... but wat to do? :stupid: most of the parents i know just send lor...
