I don't think there's any strategising in Phase 2A - unless you have previously gotten your spouse to fill up a questionnaire on his / her previous schools before both of you got together and decided to have children.
We have updated Day 2 of Phase 2A https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/2023-p1-registration-phase-2a/. 23 schools are now oversubscribed. Tomorrow's the final day, but I don't think there is much choice parents have but to simply grit their teeth and go through with it. I don't think there's much strategizing in Phase 2A. If you have to ballot, well, you have to ballot. At least you are getting a chance in Phase 2A
With reference to your article, do note that Gongshang Primary Phase 2A numbers are driven by both alumni and MK. It was a popular school with alumni in the past, MK basically pushes it over the limit (multiple times). I doubt anyone in Phase 2A will back down, so it's gonna be a fight till the end.
In general, what's most interesting about Phase 2A is the increasing number of alumni who are applying, even in schools that aren't considered 'popular'. I think it's a sign that points to many people wanting to 'chope' a place in a school of choice (even it isn't the top choice) first, in case Phase 2C throws out too many surprises, especially when the applicants are being squeezed out of their top choices. -

That's interesting. It's something I haven't really thought of before. I did see a small handful of parents dropping out of schools they already have a spot for, in Phase 2A, but you are right. It's nothing compared with the large amount of movement in Phase 2C. I guess \"choping\" a place first is a good idea, but I wouldn't risk it later by pulling out to try at a later stage :nailbite:

My kid is at MK Gongshang registered for phase 2A this year. The numbers are scary! Much more than last year! Can only hope for the best… balloting within 1km beckons…

Better get our kids into good primary school now so that they have chance to get a better spouse next time (In case this survey thing is a trend 20 years later) -

You trying for Gongshang? It is scary hot this year, in spite of the increase of 10 places. The trend will likely continue into Phase 2B and 2C. You should look at other close schools around you for Phase 2CS, just in case.

Well, it's great that you have a good alternative! Hang in there, even all the way through to Phase 2C if necessary. You will get what you are looking for.

As per last years, number of applicants isn’t updated on the last day of the application phase. Also, no “live” breakdown is given. I do think there should be a number more schools “qualifying” for balloting which aren’t reflected in the last update.

“We are in the process of verifying online applications. The next update will be by 6pm on Wednesday, 19 July 2023” (…ahead of the SMS results on 21 July 2023).

I suspect this year they will at least provide the distance breakdown in their 19 July update, so that applicants know whether they are in the running for the ballot or not.
