I recall in the past when we used T score, NYGH had the highest COP at 263. That gave some parents the impression that it was the best Sec sch.

Any ideas why in the AL system, NYGH’s COP becomes AL7 instead of AL6 like RGS and MGS?

The 263 could have been 260+3 bonus pts from HCL. So raw score of 260. Was that comparable to RGS and MGS T score COP?

The cop for NY 2023 sec 1 was AL7D. A parent pointed out, how many 7D can there be, so majority would still require 6 to get in.
Cop for mgs 2022 was 7.

According to MOE, the COP for 2022 IP was 6.

I am not saying one school is better than others. Just trying to understand.

I agree that the COP of a school does not mean majority who got in scored that. It is also possible that the last student who was admitted with AL7D was the ONLY AL7 too. Similarly, for MGS and RGS, we can also argue that the last one who entered scored AL6 and she could be the only one in that school and majority scored AL5.

            Another 2 questions:
I don't know how many students can score AL4, AL5 and AL6 each year since the scores are no longer moderated and raw scores are used to compute the AL. Is it even correct to say AL4, 5 and 6 students in total should form the top 3% of cohort?

Do AL4, 5 and 6 students get the ESIS?

Last year’s ESIS cut off was AL5 according to this link:

I think it has to do with the first estimated AL score COP that MOE released. It was based on the 2020 cohort PSLE results. MOE simulated the estimated AL scores COP based on the results and the respective S1 postings. So i think that was the baseline reference that the subsequent year students used for their school choice options.

Plus NYGH being SAP school, there’s also the Distinction, Merit and Pass. So, any movements are likely within the HCL scores only as AL7D to AL6D is like a "3-point" drop, if you get what i mean.
For MGS, there’s no HCL considerations, so the probability of the AL scores to move from AL7 to AL6 higher

7D, more specifically is getting distinction in hmt is not common.
Cop for MGS 2022 sec 1 was 7, took psle in 2021.
I believe, the number of dsa students they take in play a part too. The more dsa students (with cap), the fewer places left hence lower cop. Hard to know these figures.
Affiliation bonus also plays a part. Tscore 250 was thought to be AL9, if you refer to past years cop using TJC or similar as reference. But NY cop for affiliation is now AL8, more stringent. Fewer enter by affiliation? Hence more places for sec 1 posting?
Technically speaking, AL6 and 7 overlaps if converted to tscore, so it is not possible to segregate so distinctly too.

Esis was 5 for past 2 years using AL.
Not sure what is the cohort size this yr but there was a dip in 2022 p6 batch.

Some parents pointed out before, even esis in tscore time was not 3%. Because not all 263/262 or AL4-5 choose to go independent schools.
There was mention by other parents before, it could be top 5% in tscore time.

I observe that the prc (from those i know) used to aim NY are shifting their targets to R.
Also non chinese would not choose NY being a sap sch. Was there a change in foreign kids composition ard 2010 time?

Between NY and MGS, one is sap and the other is clearly not. Quite distinctly different. If kid is not strong in chinese, she may have own preference.

One leads to A level and the other leads IB. Different too.

Another friend of mine did consider this also, the school fees. Esis amount pretty much can cover NY school fees for singaporeans but R/MGS sch fees is much higher. But her kid is very strong in Chinese, D in hcl. So they choose NY. Actually the kid got perfect score AL4D.

MOE website: PSLE score range of 2022, MGS IP non-affiliated 4-7 is referring to kids taking PSLE in 2022.
Your previous post was referring to those who took PSLE in 2021. So it got harder to get into MGS last year.

Cop with fluctuation +-1 is quite normal, i believe. It also depends on the preference parents and students have. It could be AL7 cop this yr too. Some diehard fan with AL7 are willing to take a risk to put mgs as 1st choice and may get in like in 2021 due to available places.
A AL7 kid may be a 260 while a AL6 kid may only have 258. So sec 1 posting is largely dependent on preferences affecting demand. Not so much of the better students allocated to which sch.
