I am a little confused.
There are 5 candidates.
3 from dance - 1 CO, 2 WL
2 from basketball - 1 CO, 1 WL
The order of preferred candidate is as follows:
1. Dance CO
2. Basketball CO
3. Basketball WL
4. Dance WL
5. Dance WL
If the no. 1 dance CO student decides to accept a CO from another school, the next student to be promoted from WL to CO will not come from dance. The next in line is student no. 3 basketball WL, resulting in dance 0 CO, basketball 2 CO.
Why did you combine two different domains into one list. I would have thought that the lists will be completely independent. -
To add on to Avenue3’s query, does the importance or significance of the domain viewed by the respective schools play a part in the allocation of these CO or conversion of WL slots?

I can’t say for all schools but I know that in my DS1’s school, a certain sport would get about 7-8 DSA students. Or more.

I guess other domains have to give.
It does depend on the school’s needs. -

Do academic domains like Maths/Science/languages take away these ‘quotas’ from ‘marginalised’ sports or games? Top schools may still focus on the academics.

For \"IP\" 6 years' A-level destination bound Secondary schools -

Yes.
Maths & Science, these 2 academic subjects domain have a higher number of DSA seats allocated to them,
compared to
(Sports / Performance Arts / Leadership) category domain.
Languages (English), not really.
Few DSA seats are allocated.
Example
Raffles Girls' Secondary (IP), for English domain : single digit.
==================
If is \"Non-IP\" Secondary schools,
then, that will
depend on the Standard of the Secondary school, itself. -

You are right.
I am a little confused.

Both lists (CO and WL) are different.
What floppy Is trying to illustrate is -
In the event,
If someone were to turn down a CO from a domain say \"X\",
It does not necessarily mean that the Waitlist will automatically be given to another candidate, coming from the same identical domain \"X\" too.
What floppy is trying to illustrate is, in fact,
the Waitlist can be given to another candidate,
coming from
another totally different domain, Y or Z, depending on the ranking position of that candidate, inside the Wait list itself.
This is what, he is trying to illustrate.
And
who knows the exact ranking position of those candidates, inside the Wait list ?
only the Principal or VP or the DSA panel Officer overall in charge, know. -
I agree that at some schools there are more academic COs than sports/CCA COs (in the aggregate). That being said, I don’t think any of the domains accepting applications are really ‘marginalised.’ Some of the spots for powerhouse sports/CCAs within a school (including the academic driven ones) may even be viewed as more important. If you can’t get Player A, Player B, or Player C, then need Player D, etc. I.e. for some of these sports you need a certain number of capable players each year to compete in the games/matches. In contrast, for some of the academic domains, whether the CO + WL conversions are +/- a couple/few in any year may not matter so much (lots of capable kids coming through the door via S1).
So priority in the WL may be different from looking at a list of which domains accept the greatest number of students? It probably depends on a number of things and no one knows for sure (as mentioned).
In the end, schools cannot fully control whether students given COs will accept or forgo for another CO. Still, the enrollment into some domains (both sports and academics) appears to be pretty consistent year to year at some schools. Not quota per se but probably a rough target number everyone is working with each year (+/-) and they know which kids or how many (by historical odds) will typically accept. -

By the end of August month end Timeline dateline,
Will students with WL and CO be informed at the same time?
When must students with CO make the accept/decline decision?
Will students with WL be given CO immediately after the those with CO have rejected or WL will only be converted after PSLE result is out?
Let's say we have two WL. Is it possible that both WL be converted to CO or schools will know via MOE system and each student with multiple WLs will have ONLY ONE converted to CO?
Sorry if these questions were asked before. Trying to see if it is even worth it to try DSA in near future.
all DSA P6 candidates will be informed, for each of the DSA domain they have applied for, whether they are
successful (received either CO or WL Waitlist) or
Un-successful (ie. Rejected).
Suppose a candidate, by end of August month end 2023,
1) received a Waitlist from Methodist Girls' School, for \"English\" academic subject, domain
And
2) concurrently, also received a CO from SCGS (Singapore Chinese Girls' School), for \"badminton\" Sports domain.
====================
Suppose PSLE is over, gone past the last PSLE paper already sat for.
When Is the last PSLE paper, over ?
Answer:
by the end of first week of October.
So, since PSLE is already over, both mother and daughter sit down together at home, to discuss.
Example
========
One parent asked her daughter,
\"Ah girl X, how did you perform in your PSLE so far, in all your 4 subjects ? What overall PSLE AL score u think ... u likely to score ?
Which DSA Secondary school, do u want to accept, now that your PSLE is over & done with ? \"
Suppose this pupil answer her parents this way :-
\"Mommy,
Actually, I am not really interested in that Sports domain (badminton) at SCGS, even though I did receive a CO from SCGS.
Because ...
Sports domain, the commitment is very heavy going. Every week, I must practise at least minimum 2, if not 3 times per week. Closer towards competition time, I must practise even much more frequently. SCGS give me this CO for a purpose behind, so that I can win medal for badminton & bring glory to the school. This imposes a burden upon me,
not to mention that
is certainly going to take up a lot of my precious, valuable time away, Mom, in terms of doing my own personal, revision time for so many Secondary school subjects.
Mom,
now in Secondary school, I need to study Total 8 or 9 subjects, no longer merely studying 4 subjects in the primary school. I will find it hard, to strike a balance for time management, between my Sports commitment to SCGS vs. my academics. I dont want to struggle, in my acdemics. So, Mommy, I have decided to ...
turn down SCGS CO (badminton Sports).
Instead,
I rather choose to take up MGS Wait list, for English subject domain.
Because ...
I think with my strong command of English, this can help me in my Literature, a new Secondary school subject newly introduced (added). \"
So, let's say,
above is this P6 student's own decision made. She owns this DSA decision making,
because
she is being self responsible, thinking for her own Secondary school education learning.
So, what happen ?
After PSLE is over,
there is a date to submit your decision making to MOE.
In this case,
since this pupil has explicitly chosen to give up SCGS CO (badminton Sports),
then
fill up only that one answer required, inside that DSA form to be submitted back to MOE.
That is -
She accepts the Waitlist (DSA outcome) for Methodist Girls School WL, for English subject domain. That's all.
After that, do what ?
Just wait for the PSLE results released announcement date to arrive, in November.
When this pupil finally receive her PSLE results in November, two possible scenario can happen.
Either her Wait list gets converted, or not converted. She will only know of this outcome, on the actual PSLE results Announcement date. Not even one day earlier.
A)
if her Wait list (English domain) gets converted successfully, Congratulations !
She is admitted into MGS Secondary school Sec 1, and not allowed to participate in S1 posting exercise anymore.
OR
B)
if her Wait list (English domain) wasn't converted,
then
based on her overall PSLE AL score for 4 subjects, she will choose 6 Secondary schools, to participate in S1 posting exercise. -
NJC selection test on upcoming Wednesday - anyone got ideas what will be tested, please?
Thank you.
