Hi,

Not after the interview, but after the trial selection.

My husband emailed the assistant director in charge of shooting, and asked if he can put us on the waiting list. We were hoping that if some students accept their DSA offers by other top schools, then their DSA offers by singapore sports school will be void, so we may still stand a chance.

I believe that many top schools in singapore also have their waiting lists.

Surprisingly, the assistant director replied saying that they do not have a waiting list.

Meaning to say that if some students void their DSA offers by singapore sports school, they would rather leave the vacancies empty?

I find that very weird 🤔🤔

Not sure about shooting but what I heard from the GM of another sport is that they will have a smaller batch if students reject the offer in the end. I don’t think they have a strict number of max or min students every year.

This policy is quite silly imo. They dun take part in S1 posting, so a CO not taken up is really their big loss if they dun have a waitlist. If they really want to groom sporting talent they should be casting their net wider. Esp an extremely niche sport like Shooting. Waste of a world class shooting range being built.

No waiting list, in which I find it unbelieveable as well, lol........
But they are the boss, they decide on the rules and regulations pertaining to their admissions of student atheletes.
I think they would rather leave some of their shooting lanes empty 😁😁

Try to think from SSP perspective. They spend a lot on grooming medal worthy future athletes and they also must have a rate of return on their investment cost. Their KPI is different from a regular school.

No wait list in this school, because their thinking is ...

if no talent, don't waste time, what for take the kid in ? Let the seats be empty

How big is the pool of kids attending shooting trial?


On the contrary, I find it understandable. They put in quite a lot of investment and subsidies by government. If the kids have potential, SSP will take them in regardless of the vacancies. So depending on the quality of the batch every year, no fixed number.

I feel that not having a WL doesn’t mean they have not already casted their net wide.

My personal opinion: they are unlike mainstream secondary schools, those usually take in only the kids who can win medals for them at NSG ie local events. Whereas isnt SSP’s purpose to groom for longer term & further shores, eg regional games, commonwealth games, asian games, Olympics?


Given that the earliest a kid can start shooting lessons is P5 (P4 if airgun) it’s a bit narrow minded to limit their intake to eg the already top top rather than considering the ones with some budding potential that can be trained further.

From what I heard, for some students of SSP, after spending about 2 years there and improving in their skills of their respective sports, they will be bringing their excellent achievements to the principals of RI / ACSI / HCI, and so on.


Those students will very likely be taken in by those top schools, which are always hungry for medals.

They will then say bye bye to SSP, since their parents and them are just treating SSP as stepping boards in the first place.

I seriously wonder if SSP is aware that some of the so called \"talents\" whom they are taking in are only making use of it for their personal benefits 😆😆

I trust your kid did his best. You as parents must have done a lot too. Kudos! It could be their loss not getting your kid. Continue to train and prove them wrong! That’s what I prepared to tell my kid if getting rejected too.

Can always try again when the kids are ready.

As for the hear say, I would not think that they purposely treat SSP as stepping board, but rather they realise their kids need more academic reinforcement? I would not send my kids to top schools for his sports achievements if his academic standard is not there. So those who go to top school must have their reasons too.
